RaoulJuke Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Greetings, i am getting back into my music again after having a break for several years & am looking for some good CD player suggestions to go with my current set up. Currently I am using a Pathos Twin Tower Amp + a pair of Zu Supreme speakers. What would people suggest as a good option for a CD player to go with this?

If you can advise the budget your willing to spend up to, it would help many to suggest, which way you can go for that amount of funds.

Budget i am always open to. Its certainly good when you can get something for "less" (especially atm as I just found out the business i work for is closing down in 2 months). I think the tippy top i would want to spend would be $1000 but would really prefer to spend less than that. Is the difference in sound quality for CD that affected in the same way as you see with vinyl etc?
grammefriday Posted February 20 Posted February 20 if you want something new for that price you could get the Marantz CD6007 otherwise consider something second hand in the SNA classifieds.

Thanks, i recall a while back people suggesting a "Oppo" (??) I cant recall which, but would this marantz be equal/better than that option? Or would the Oppo be considerably cheaper

Another vote for the CD6007, certainly considering its replacement is the CD60, at almost double the price.
rantan Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Within the stated budget, I would buy this. Sound great and it's a pre/DAC as well. Definitely better than the Marantz IMNSHO

grammefriday Posted February 20 Posted February 20 The Rotel mentioned above is another good option as well ....
RaoulJuke Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 awesome, thanks. I will go check out the CD6007 & The Rotel & let you know where i land. Appreciate the responses, helps alot
DazzS Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Is it just me or do cd players seem to get uglier the more they cost? 2

gemini07 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Another option is to buy a CD transport plus a separate DAC. As you progress in your journey, or just want to experiment, you can try DACs with different flavours. That also allows you more flexibility with streaming (into the dedicated DAC). Unless of course the CD player you get has a digital IN to utilise its internal DAC, and even then, you are confined to that set up. 1
tone_al Posted February 25 Posted February 25 The new Michi Q5 just picked one up today. I don't know about your amp but paired with the X5 the sound was amazing

075Congo Posted February 26 Posted February 26 (edited) At $695 in the SNA Classifieds now, the ARCAM FMJ CD17 player is an outstanding choice. Originally RRP of $1495 this player would be a great choice......much better quality than the Marantz or the Rotel mentioned earlier. Its also in Stafford in Brisbane! Edited February 26 by 075Congo

Given age the Unison might be better for some folk. In the Vintage Sony stables there is also ones like the 337ESD with Dual TDA1541 chips and KSS190A mech. Would need a step down to 100vac. https://www.ebay.com/itm/387915520408 Edited February 27 by muon*
