grammefriday Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Just wondering if the above is a good idea to keep the same 'flavour' or not really necessary. Also, different makers have different series within their products so should interconnects with silver be matched with speaker cable with the same? The quality of the amp and sources will obviously have an impact but just curious as to members thoughts.
ray4410 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 interesting question i myself have had both versions different speaker cable to interconnects but find that using the same manufacturer of both interconnects and speaker cable to be more of a balanced sound i agree that it is all system dependant so it is basically trial and error
075Congo Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I tend to always use the same "brand" of cable for both interconnects and speaker cable.....but as Mark from SONIC ART indicates "it ain't necessarily so!" I am currently breaking my own rule and mixing Kimber Kable Carbon 16 speaker cable and Jumpers with a pair of Shunyata Research Alpha-X Interconnects. Sounds fantastic so ........do what you can afford!! 2
cafe67 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 The electronics don’t know what cables they are connected too, but there is of course a possible synergy in using all the same brands cables. But also mix and match bring it’s own strength & rewards 1
Kirby66 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I have found that cable choice when swapping between brands of similar performance level, is one of the final subtle adjustments (tweaks) to the overall sound I listen to. Many of us have systems comprised of various brands of components, most brands have a 'house' sound. Achieving good overall sound is often about synergy and matching the components. If all components lean towards warmth, even if that is your personal preference, it may result in just too much of a good thing. It's much the same with cables. My system source is digital (never thought I'd say that 10 years ago!!!) and I have settled on a single brand for ethernet and USB. I have a couple of options for XLR (DAC to PRE & PRE to POWER) and speaker cables which I tend to rotate every six months or so. Each option delivers a great sound but they are subtly different and I appreciate what each one does differently to the other. 1
David A Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I know that reviewer Fred Crowder subscribes to the view that mixing and matching cables is the best way to achieve synergy. But he admits that is a process of trial and error. I personally subscribe to the view that using cables from the same manufacturer is the way to go for synergy and coherency. And that's the way i'll be going with my next loom of cables.
075Congo Posted March 7 Posted March 7 It would be enlightening to hear what the actual cable makers have to say about this topic....not likely to happen for a whole raft of reasons......the main one being them keeping their thoughts and ideas to themselves. Remember years ago when I was a "Nordost" person.......mixing Blue Heaven with higher levels like FREY or even beyond was a certain way to break the bank... the difference sound-wise was remarkable.

Should silver wire be forced to be equipped with silver audio cables? This is like buying running shoes - whether the color is sexy or not is not important, the key is whether the soles are not slippery or not.
