I would never do is buy anything with a FORD logo

Thank you for sharing your experience. In terms of engine reliability I think Isuzu, Mazda & Toyota's are okay with few minor issues.

Ford for few its great and for some its to avoid.

picked up hire car for next work trip ... and yep luck would have it .. its a AWD subby forester..

what i like about them is they are very much car like.. rather than truck like 🙂

and very nice interior.. well appointed..

interiors are important as thats what interact with for most of trip.. and will be doing some 1200-1300km in this one ...

this ones done 21,000 km so for a rental must stand up well to abuse ... .. has good safeties .. and even some city niceties as since if you at lights and car ahead moves off .. it gives you a gentle beep 🙂 nothing too annoying..

this one has the very capable x-mode ...roof racks... decent boot.. and quite roomy front and back.. good family car material and good day to day car...

In 2016 we moved onto a farm, sold the Golf for 2 x 3.2L for Rangers. My wife's died around 200,000kms, mine has had half the trans replaced, had a trans cooler upgrade, upgraded Torque converter and has 210,000 on it and seems to be working ok.

We got the Mrs a 2008 200 series and its a MILLION times better than a Ranger. Like chalk and cheese - better everything. I'd buy one in a heartbeat for me. Even if you've got to drop $25k on new injectors, turbos etc, I'd still do it over a brand new ute - buy a 2015 200 series with 150-200kms on it, for $45-50k, spend $25k on a mid life service. More power, more comfortable, better AC, more reliable, doesn't overheat. I've got a shmick steel tray on my Ranger with all the trimmings, but I'd swap that for a 200 and a little trailer any day.

The Ranger Groups I'm in on Facebook are like a hospital ward - daily posts on how do I fix this, that, or the other (major stuff too, engines and trans, all models, including the new ones). Nothing like that in the 200 series groups, save the injectors and turbos.

PS Totally left of centre, if I REALLY needed a tray, I'd by a 4x4 Isuzu truck....rock solid reliable, smaller turning circle than a ute, 4.5t towing and HEAPs of payload.

PPS Ute tubs are totally useless, trays all the way - get an aluminum jack off canopy for stuff/lockup

Lastly, we have a vertical rack for the bikes, its the business. Ute trays are not cut out for transporting them, in my opinion

Saw one of these in the flesh today,  bloody awesome looking vehicle, no doubt the interior will have some very nice plastic features.  believe its a hybrid. A plug in hybrid under $60K b4 on road and goes from 0-100 in 5.7secs  like all BYD it has V2L..  bonus if a tradie goes on site and no power to plug tools in.

I saw one of these on the road.............not very good looking at all.

On par with Great Wall and other pretenders.

Yes, most of these new vehicles look like lego toys, especially the electric ones.

This is a purely hypothetical post, but IF for some strange reason, I had to buy a ute/truck, it would undoubtedly be this. Ugly, of course, but what in this class isn't?

At least this is not trying to put lipstick on a pig and in another life I may be even interested in buying one.

I really can't understand the "Tonka Toy Tough" aesthetics of most of these utes.

It's a bit like the reviewers continuously lauding the styling of new cars as "aggressive" as if that's a good (or even essential) thing.

IMHO, we need more "defensive" then "aggressive" on the roads.

Tasman Ute - you must be joking

Why exactly?

It's not like this thread is a parade of cutting edge styling.

The Tasman is designer ugly, but ,in any case, I won't be buying one ( or any other truck in this lifetime ).

Maybe I should be wary of posting hypotheticals.🙃

Not aggressive enough … no one will buy it ! :D

with everyone on big SUVs and jacked up dual cabs you wouldn’t even see it trying to tail gate you :D

Yep got to be joking with some of these !

possibly launching at the worst time ! too….Dual cabs / Ute sales slid down last year and plummeted in Jan and feb so far this year. Some of it could be the gov instant write off and tax break etc which I believe is gone. Might mean folks looking else where, buying what they would have otherwise. Overall new car sales are dropping fast anyways as well.
