fjs Posted February 28 Posted February 28 After many years I’m reasonably happy with my equipment. For 25 of those years I owned an Australian made pre and power amp which was totally awesome. After 25 years some things started to malfunction but repairs have been lengthy and ongoing so to fill the gap I bought a Wyred4sound class d pre and power amp which is surprisingly good but a different sound to class a/ab amplifiers in my opinion so I thought I would buy a class ab amp to compare and to be able to switch between. I ended up buying a very nice used Parasound A23 power amp which is a very nice amp in build quality and sound quality other than that I find it a bit warm, not as dynamic as I am use to and a little boring. Hence I am looking to change that amp to something more to my sound preference but my budget is somewhat limited, in fact limited to just about what I can sell the parasound for. Just wondering if any members have owned the a23, found similar limitations and have since upgraded to something different.
wen Posted March 1 Posted March 1 @fjs Hi Frank, only from reading forums and not from experience with the Parasound, the Parasound has a high class A bias, this is the signature you are describing, which is the polar opposite to class D, there have been mentions of the gain controls on the back having some influence on the sound, also using balanced cables to sharpen the sound. Other members with experience with the actual amp will hopefully give their insights.
Pegasus Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Over a period of 20 years I went from a Parasound A21 to an Elektra Refererence to a Pass Labs X250.5 to a Plinius SA250 mk4 to Plinius sa 103 monoblocks.
