jonnyadelaide Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) I've been using a TorTech 500watt stepdown transformer for my 100v Denon SX-11 amplifier. I keep reading that a 1000 watt version is more suitable. I've just ordered a TorTech 1010watt version, but it has two outlets for connecting two appliances. Does that mean the wattage is divided into two even if only one (my amp) appliance is connected? Does this mean my amp will be effectively powered by 505 watts instead of the full 1010? Cheers! Willmax Posted March 8 Posted March 8 If only using one outlet at a time you should have the full 1010 Watts available.

Your amp seems to have a rating of 140w into 8 ohms (with no specification into 4 ohms). So that means 280w - as it's a stereo amp. It's not 100% efficient - so that means, at max power, it's probably drawing about 400w. 9 hours ago, jonnyadelaide said: I keep reading that a 1000 watt version is more suitable. A 1000w rating will give you more headroom for transients than your current 500w step-down offers. 9 hours ago, jonnyadelaide said: I've just ordered a TorTech 1010watt version, but it has two outlets for connecting two appliances. NO! 1010w is available. If only your amp is connected ... then this is available to your amp. Please tell us whether the larger step-down makes your amp sound better. Theory says it should ! 1
