However, I would bet closer to 95-99% of TT owners already has a connected internet service in their home (for other reasons and/or other household members). 1

I remember paying around $16-18 for an album. $30 for special recordings and imports. Walked into JB today and it blew me away. I have some of these in my collections but, I see ordinary people selecting a number of these going to the checkout. back in my day.... 7 odd years ago My Discogs account shows I acquired this MJ record in 2017 I know I got it from JB and I'm pretty sure it was in the under $30 special bin, so unless it's a new amazing repress here, there's something fishy going on here are the recent discogs sales for this particular issue, mostly mint and sealed and not involving Oz sellers Edited March 11 by wasabijim 1
illusion Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I still got hundreds of my records bought as a teen back in the 70's. Including this one, which I'm pretty sure was my first 33rpm. I'd be guessing but it was most likely about $3.99. I still remember the shock when the 33's went up to $6.99. 1

This was one of my first LPs as a teen. I won it off my much older and academic cousin by beating him at chess, it was always big motivation for me to concentrate and strategies when I could get an album from playing the game. Still love the album today, but playing it on a worn heavy ceramic mono cart in the day (all I had to listen to it on) stripped the grooves and caused a big jump. I play the CD now. 2
MrBurns84 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I havent spinned any records since my son snapped off the cantilever of my cart , i solely focused on digital over the last 3 years. Given that i'm still keeping my blue note collections, and the lot. Ive just checked pricing on these now, its just insane..
Silver Audiophile Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Some words of advise for folks holding a large LP collection- beware of local crime gangs. Word on the street is that they are trading vinyl as currency.

Just saying....NO internet, NO streaming Well let's not go half arsed if you're going to be pedantic. What percentage of internet usage is divided between music streaming, Netflix etc., emails, online surfing etc. Once those figures are calculated attribute the percentage of your music streaming to the cost of internet access and add that to your Tidal fees. But wait, this is not apples with apples because vinyl has additional associated costs such as travelling to the store, cleaning vinyl and keeping it dust free, upgrading covers etc. Just saying. The replacement of stylus/cartridges due to unfortunate accidents or general wear. My ears are now used to carts that now cost more than my vintage TTs or CD player.

I'd now wished that i didnt spend what i had on my TT rig.. the Delos cart now is so expensive to replace, only way i can afford is to get it repaired. 1
Silver Audiophile Posted March 13 Posted March 13 When I last checked, many of favourite albums on Tidal are not available on LP. Below streamer listed for only 6 new LPs! Not the streamer I would use, however for only half a dozen LPs it's not bad? 1
MrBurns84 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Or this for $180 - https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/diy-high-end-music-streamer-using-rpi-5-and-snakeoil-os.1077954/ for the price of 2-3 LPs? 1

Raspberry Pi, especially those with upgrade power supplies don't sound too bad. In this case say 2 LPs for the Raspberry Pi itself, and a further 2 LPs worth for the upgrade (generic) linear power supply.. you've got a functioning good streamer. 1

There’s many places like chapel st and Footscray I’ve seen opened up but also charge mega prices. Some or most won’t even have the titles you want and most have to be ordered on line. Unlike the good old days where there were music outlets everywhere. Sad to hear that some of the pressings and orders are not up to scratch or gets damaged by the time it arrives. The Post Office in Bright sells records, fairly good choice of classics and new too. I remember the electrical shop in the village in England where i was born selling records back in the 70s. Seems what goes around comes around.
