Douglas HiFi Posted March 17 Posted March 17 HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY! What a day to announce the worst-kept secret in the Perth hi-fi scene for ages AND to showcase this beautiful product below. We are immensely proud to become the Linn turntable dealer in Perth. This wonderful Scottish brand has been kicking goals for 51 years now - the LP12 is the longest-running SKU in the hifi industry and this is no accident. The LP12 turntable is an incredible piece of engineering with musicality for days and of course, all those LP12 variants that have come before can be upgraded in numerous ways to improve their performance even more. We have already been doing some upgrades for clients behind the scenes before this announcement which we will post about throughout the week. Our first Linn product for our showroom arrived last week. It is built, complete, and ready to enthrall all those who come to listen! We love the colour, just in time to celebrate this special day! Douglas HiFi Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 A few weeks ago we substantially upgraded this client's Linn LP12 by implementing a Lingo 4 power supply. This upgrade also includes a new motor and switch (speed selection control at the press of a button). 4 1
Douglas HiFi Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 We mentioned the Linn Lingo 4 upgrade we performed in the post above? In a kind of "pay it forward" way, we were able to utilize the parts we removed from that LP12 and supplant them into another LP12 for a client giving this one an upgrade - NOS motor, switch and Majik power supply. 2
Douglas HiFi Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 Linn Lingo 4 upgrades have been coming thick and fast at the store - here is a fairly new and current Majik LP12 getting the upgrade treatment this week. The Funk Firm Achromat is a lovely touch on this deck, so we adjusted the Krane tonearm to give us far better, accurate VTA and SRA. Here is a comparison between Lingo motor and Majik motor:- Very happy with the finished result! 4
Douglas HiFi Posted April 16 Author Posted April 16 Linn is a brand that is particularly very close to my (Mark) heart. About a year ago, I was fortunate to visit the Linn factory just outside Glasgow. Below and over a forthcoming post or two, I would like to share these images of the amazing place where these wonderful products are dreamt, designed, conceived, and built. I tend to journal these types of events as I experience them, and below are my thoughts of the experience at the time. Suffice it to say, the words still hold true. The thing that gets you the thing. Like the best concerts that leave an indelible mark for some time upon leaving the venue, I find myself already dwelling upon the incredible hospitality, creativity and inspiration that everyone at Linn HQ afforded me this week. I've learned a lot, shared a lot, and made some new friends over these few days. I've been awestruck at how many same-family members work there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters. Despite their status as a global icon, Linn operates with remarkable humility. The people truly come first, and the pride in their work is palpable. While I adore and idolize the musicians and artists, those who put pen to paper, strike or chord or take to the stage in front of thousands of strangers, I equally adore the talented designers, the engineers, the educators, the troubleshooters, the whole collective who make wonderful machines on which we get to listen to the music we love with clarity, precision and authenticity, but most of all, emotion. It's the thing that gets you the thing. Linn is most definitely the thing. 2 1
