Hi, our 12 year old SVS sb13-plus STA-1000D sealed subwoofer has finally died (fuse is ok).

Its been a beast and we have enjoyed it, our use is 80% Home Theatre (TV & Kodi streaming) and 20% Music streaming at CD quality.

Its connected to a NAD AVR T758 V3i via a single cable, settings are managed from the AVR (we don't use any of the advanced features).

The tiled room its in is about 13m x 8m, mostly hard surfaces.

The path to repair at this stage looks to be about $1,000 and purchase a "SB13-Ultra Amplifier Upgrade Kit", looks like I can install myself.

SVS current unit spec: Sealed box subwoofer

Driver: 13.5-inch high-performance SVS Ultra driver

Amplifier: Sledge STA-1000D DSP-controlled Class D amplifier

Power Output: 1,000 watts RMS (continuous), 3,200+ watts peak dynamic power

Frequency Response: Approximately 20 Hz to 460 Hz (±3 dB), with potential extension to 15 Hz in-room with proper placement and room gain

Dimensions: Approximately 17.4" H x 17.4" W x 18.5" D (442 mm x 442 mm x 470 mm)

Weight: Approximately 95 lbs (43 kg)

This sub was not purchased for this house but seems to work very well for us.

My guess is that unless we buy something second hand that its probably worth fixing compared to the price of something reasonable new, is this a reasonable view?

The next house is likely smaller where space/weight may be more important than they are now, is there other units that are worth looking at for a comparable price?

What else is worth considering before making a decision or who would be worth contacting to help worth through the options? (we are located Sunshine Coast, QLD)

the upgrade amplifier is a 1200w and many did upgrade at the time it was released many years ago, check avs forums for opinions.

there is basically nothing new for $1000 that will compare and 2nd hand you will be waiting a long time and still wont find anything. if one did come up i cant see anyone selling for much under $1500 if that. the only advantage that would bring is you have a spare driver, something you cant replace due to svs way of changing things each model.

i would suggest sending an email directly to svs in the states who might out of kindness arrange something for you, did for me on an older 20-39pc plus.

anyway buying the amp from the Australian distributor gets you a 5 year warranty and Aust consumer protection. but svs U.S. might be able to organize a better deal.

Thanks, I am thinking I will end up going this way, the US Support team is not interested in assisting.

Unfortunately it looks like we'll have to wait 2 months for parts to be available.
