Why so many larger companies don't make streamers in the price bracket $1000 - $2000? Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Sony, Pioneer, Rotel, Technics, Panasonic, Parasound etc.

In many cases they have streaming amplifiers, all they have to do is to remove the amplification part , add few features and that's it.

 

Meantime brands like Cambridge Audio, Bluesound, Eversolo, Wiim, Fiio are selling streamers in high quantity. Hmmm...

If I was considering expanding my own business in that direction, the first thing to do would be the SWOT analysis. Some key points below.

 

Strengths

Whatever my business is good at that would be transferable to the new kind of activity.

 

Weaknesses

We don't have the technology that could compete with the market leaders.

 

Opportunities

The market is not very crowded. Should be relatively easy to develop unique offer and achieve decent margins and quick ROI

 

Threats

Dependancy on third party services, protocols and licenses. Strong possibility that our product will have to be frequently updated to remain relevant.

 

I think this last one would be a showstopper for many businesses.
