hi everyone - hoping for some guidance as I can't work out (or interweb) a solution to my connections.

I recently purchased an Audiolab 9000CDT which i intended to connect to my Wiim Ultra to perform DAC duties, to then connect to my Willsenton R8.  Happily, it arrived today before the Easter break!

The Audiolab has either Toslink or Coax outputs.  I can connect to the Wiim via Toslink.

The Wiim has Line Out/Toslink Out and i've previously been running the line out to a Pre-In on the R8 (for streaming) with great results.

I'm sure this will come across as a simple (stupid?) question but if the Audiolab is connected via Toslink to the Wiim, can it only push a signal through the Toslink out?  meaning i can't connect it to the R8?

I had thought I could use the Wiim simply as a DAC but maybe i've made an error...

any help would be fantastic.

cheers

If you are running the digital in from a transport then i imagine the Ultra would simply convert through the dac and put analogue out the left and right outputs. I have an ultra but using it to stream and play from usb, it will feed straight out the L/R outputs as well as the digital output.  I haven't used the digital in.

hi Mark - thanks for such a quick reply.

That's what i would have thought.  in that the digital in from the transport would be fed out of the L/R outputs.

I've switched two separate digital cable inputs, using both coax and Toslink and also tried to resolve using the settings on the Wiim Home app, without luck.

i've also reset the Wiim to factory settings thinking this might help but no.

will keep researching.

thanks again

It could be the bit rate on the wiim. It might need to match the rate from the audiolab.

Thanks Brad - that's a great insight and something i didn't even think of.

will look into it and let you know how i go.  really appreciate the help.
