ofcourse would be very foolish to expect sony australia to even be aware of the thing let alone any thought of bringing something like it in the country :D

I like the fact that SONY seem to want to make a decent amplifier again, BUT "By converting analogue music to digital" loses it for me.

I don't know why they would necessarily want to get on the bandwagon of everything has to be digitised.  Every time you change a signal from format to another something gets lost.  I may sound sharp (or some other descriptor), but will it sound as good as the original?

Output:  80w (DIN) - what does this mean (if anything) ?

I do like the Luxman-copy binding posts.

2000 pounds in England.  How much here?  Probably nothing - I agree that we will never see hem imported by SONY.

Thanks for posting, Al.

Looks like a Yamaha copy

That would be a positive I reckon

The Old ES gear was quite highly regarded so the new stuff has a lot to live up to.

I heard this JFET amp late last year at Sony HQ in Sydney- it sounded very nice. I think it was similar to my Sony TA-N7 VFET amp which IS a compliment.

A$2,999.00 RRP.

I am not 100% sure about this but I think I heard one of these yesterday. If this sounds strange it probably is, because I wasn't auditioning the amplifier and didn't take much notice of it.

What I can say is that either the speakers or the amplifier or both combined to sound exceedingly ordinary.

I don't want to name the speakers or the retailer as this seems to attract problems around here so my lips are sealed

Doesn't matter how good this thing is, it's a Sony. Like Yamaha the modern equipment carries no weight name-wise. You would get more interest from a backyarder who uses a stick for a volume control and a shoebox for a case...

Brand snobbery is alive and well...

PS: It looks gorgeous...

Dunno about that. If this forum is anything to go by, the most recent higher-end Yamaha gear has picked up a fair following. The CD players in particular seem to be getting good comments in the CD/Digital area. Justifies my own decision to purchase one (as if I needed it :P)

Hopefully if the new Sony is anything near as good as the A-S1000/2000 then it will get the  same kind of enthusiasm

That's because the Yamaha gear is usually on discount. Pretty sure not many people pay RRP for Yamaha

Or Sony.  Based on what I heard, I would take the current Yamaha premium range any day of the week in a two way contest.

Looks like this amp has been discontinued.  A pity but the reviews seem to be, while generally positive, a bit mixed as to how positive.

I'd really like to hear one but now it seems likely that I never will.  I do hope Sony replace it with something, anyone know if there are plans for a new model in the works?

OK, so it's only discontinued for sale in Australia.  The rest of the world still gets to buy it.
