The whole shebang looks great Mr Thiing, I really like the layout with the slab.

Do your bass traps do the job of taming the tubas on Taj's 'The Real Thing'?

Oh to be in Adelaide for a listen!

Cheers

Thanks Andy, but I don't think we'll be there anytime soon, having just got back to Tassie from a Cairns-Darwin trip.

In the meantime, I'm curious about which CDs get filed up in the top row (or maybe it's not out of reach for you)?

Cheers

That'd be his Cold Chisel collection Mick. It doesn't get much airtime these days as it sounds so dated :thumb:

Starts with A's from the top - I'm not tall but find it OK for height - must play some more chisel tomorrow - always good to spin the greatest Aussie band of all time :-)

Nice Vegas. Is the pillow for head or back? I occasionally use one for head if I'm watching a movie.

Did you consider the separate side table at all(not the little one that connects to the chair) the adjustable free standing one? I find it invaluable for drinks, remotes, reading material and most especially food plates ect and of course the design is very tasty as well.

Fantastic cave! WD.

Haven't looked into the side table yet luc - picked up chairs second hand - will investigate - I don't use the pillow - my wife had been using the chair whilst studying - i have since banned her :-)

I have been experimenting with chair placement - finding the chair closer is giving me tighter vocals and instrument - quit close - 2m direct line from drivers?

Near field effects Andything, as you get closer to the speakers the "direct" waveform signal path dominates(I.e ratio of loudness from direct signal to loudness of reflected signal + >the time delay of reflected signal is greater so brain ignores the reflected signal). This means that you hear more of the speaker and less of the speaker+room interaction. BUT near field listening tends to be very "single listener" oriented

I've got the same chair but had to buy mine new as they are pretty rare 2nd hand in good nick, you've done well there that's for sure.

I think my room is around the same size as yours and I'm sitting 2.5m away from my speakers and really...rooms this size can only really be about one person being in the correct position. If I ever have a GTG at my place then it'll be one person sitting in the chair, the others on the side on the lounge just like at your place.

This is the table.

The table is available from whoever sells Ekorne chairs in your town.

Not seen your room before Luc -looks sensational - love the dark walls - complete opposite to my all white room :-)

The tables look great - must investigate.

Got a machining pair of chairs and stools in Mint condition for 3K - my wife has stollen the other one for the TV room - should be my visitors chair :-)

Agree my room is set up for just Me - I plan on moving things around when I have anyone visit

3K...ffs! That is the best bargain I've read about in a long time...extremely WD Andy, good luck to you.

This is my room and the build story behind it>>click  (and the decision to get a Stressless )

Unique rack....what's the weight of it?  Couple of hundred KG is my rough guess.

That's an impressive cave.  Still trying to get mine through the senate once we sell and upsize.

The wood is only about 100kg - probably another 20kg with the stands

Inspired by a visit to a fellow SNAer yesterday I have done a bit of tinkering. Heard some Crown Princes initially driven by a class D amp then with a heavy duty ME - call me crazy but wow - no blind testing done but it convinced me that the bloody heavy ME that had just found a new home was well matched to the Duntechs :-) LUST is not too strong a word to describe my feelings as I drove away!

Well not only are big heavy ME amps hard to come by - the reality is they are out of my budget for the foreseeable future :-)

Not having my own arc welder I was stumped at what my options might be to try a cheap alternative. So tonight I decided to give bi-amping a go for a bit of fun. So probably breaking every rule I've plugged my Rotel 1312 into the system - using my Nak pre which has 2 pre outs - and using the Rotel switched to seperated so it's acting as a power amp only - got the Rotel doing the mids/tweets and the xindaks doing bass duty. No science - but first impressions leave me thinking it's helped improve the bass and I think I'm hearing improvements in the instruments generally - sharper and more alive?

I've never bi-amped before and am in no way technically profecient -,So no idea if using different amps is a big no no or if I'm just having an evening tug thinking I can hear improvements - but a bit of fun and just goes to show you can get a lot of enjoyment from hearing other people's systems and motivation to play with your own (system that is) :-)

I'll leave it to the system owner to post about his own gear out of respect for his privacy - but wow what a lot of fun was had - it also motivated me to move my wharfedales into the music room - cluttered and not a long term position - but I want to play around with them again :-)

PS - the best description from yesterday was the big ME had grabbed the Duntech CPs by the Balls and was not letting go :-)

All looking nice Andy

And that Rotel 1312 looks like the best thing since sex :thumb:

Fantastic Andy, i love your willingness to just mess around and see what happens. Has TonyM still got some Xindaks? I reckon your speakers would be needing a reasonable amount of grunt even with the woofer duties relieved.

New room looks ace!

I now own Tony's xindaks simon :-) they have been around the SA SNA traps

Ah ok, need to find some compatible amps to prove your biamp experiment. With hungry beasts like the Duntechs I reckon the difference will be substantial when you get the match right

My McCormack DNA1 is in my way in the jam room now that the Halcro is back to av duties upstairs. If you are into experimenting at the moment, you are welcome to have it for a while. It didn't really have much hope with the cps, but as a biamp toy...?

Moved a few pieces into the room - it's started now - I'm cluttering the room - hopefully an upside is better room acoustics :-)

Wife is happy it's out of our lounge :-)

Time for an update - I’m having to share the music room these days with my wife working from home - so I’ve been relegated to the back half - sold the marquis at the start of last year. Was a hard decision as I simply loved them but I no longer work and money is tight so some sacrifices required. One of my xindak mono blocks **** itself and I could not get it repaired and investing in new amps that would do the marquis justice was not going to happen. I tried to make do with some of my collected speakers but wasn’t really enjoying my system.

all that has changed in the last few months when I was lucky enough to swap my luxman TT for a set of duntech d200 viscounts.

I am back in love with my system. The viscounts don’t match the overall impact of the marquis but the mid and high end are gorgeous. Hoping to eventually integrate a sub and see what that offers.

the room is a compromise and I’ve lost my view but the viscounts suit the nearer listening position - I’m 2m from the speakers which are 2m apart and 600mm from the wall.

everything in my system is second hand and purchased at relatively low cost - oppo player with jlti mods - $300 - nak pre amp $250 - rotel 1312 pair $500 for one - the other from the dump - duntech viscounts (swapped them - my luxman TT which had cost me $500) - home made equipment stand cost me $50 and a fair bit of work (see previous pages) home made room treatment - approx $150 - listening pleasure and mental health repair - priceless ❤️

to be honest the past few years since my bicycle accident with ongoing brain injury consequences have been pretty tough - so glad to be finally back enjoying my music

still trying to work out how the new listening orientation will work best - probably next focus for me is integrate a sub to lift the bottom end and look at further room treatment - perhaps the ceiling as a first step and improve my home made “bass traps”
