 Hi all

After an original budget of about 4k for fronts and amp being reduced thru new expenses constantly keeping me form buying anthing at all i finaly put together my lonely DVD player with an A/V receiver and bookshelf speakers. I was going to smash the visa and purchase some B&W DM603's straight up but common sense won in the end. What you see in the pictures is;

Rotel RDV 995 - bought new for $650

Yamaha RX-V657 bought new for $890

B&W DM600 bought new for $550

Asorted cables by crest and monster about $250

Sonwa TV bought new form coles for $188 (and not worth $100)

Ikea "speaker stands" $10 each (Stolen from Kitchen)

Total $2548.

I am about build a rack / EU that will hold all my components have space for a center speaker and have the speakers on top next to the TV. this is due to a sever lack of space. Set top box is needed so I am not killed but the terrible sound from the sonwa TV. A new TV will be added when i can afford a 81cm LCD.

the 600's will eventualy be used as surrounds and 603's and an LCR6 for the front stage. After this a Sub will be added probably a Velodyne CHT-R10.

As the Rotel plays cd's well enough for now a High end CD player will be added last.

Cheers :-)

Thanks Aslan

I was going for value for money with room for upgrade. I didn't want to buy anything that won't last at least 5 years and the speakers longer. The problem is I have too many hobbies, I can't allocate as much funds to HT /HiFi that I would like to.

after a couple of weekends working on the rack it has been completed. I'm not the most handy person so needed alot of help form a mate who had made a similar one. The main reason i had to build one myself was o couldn't find anything that fullfilled my needs.

i wanted room for 4+ components and a centre sepaker of decent size. I think this will last me a while and the design is adjustbale and can be disasembled and assembles again, just like Ikea!!

Hope you like it. The system is much better this way. I just wish I had stained and vansihed it a bit better.

Looks sensational... if not a little familiar... I think I have a similar one at my house which is also adjustable. lol

GimmeHiFi, have to say I love the look of that stand. It certainly neatened up your existing setup :P on its own however it still looks fabulous. Where did you get the square metal legs?

Your setup itself seems very good for a first one audio wise, that TV might need some steroids though :) Good middle level speakers/amp/DVD though.

Thanks Tom

The Square metal legs are actually pieces of 40mm square steel piping I bought from a steel supplier who cut them to length, I then spray painted them black, If I build another one in the future I think I will go for stainlesss but that will cost big $$$$. Just waiting for 81cm LCD TV's to reach my Budget and I will be very happy.
