April Snow Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 @Peterbean It is wonderful isn't it? Others on here mentioned it was a good watch (thank you to all) & I learnt a lot - I was shocked to see he had been part of the Andy Warhol Chelsea Hotel crew (with Lou and Nico) .............for some reason that did not dawn on me. Although this is a Bob Dylan thread I know .........but had to comment all the same that the series is fabulous!!! The actor is amazing. 2

No such thing as off topic here Feel free to post anything thing here no matter how tenuous the link with Dylan is One of the most interesting things about music discussion /debate or argument is how musicians bands and records can crossover 1

Here’s an example of the above off topic Ive only seen 1 episode of the Leonard Cohen series but correct me if I’m wrong but another Australian present on Hydra at that time but not mentioned was the late Mungo MacCallum a journalist from around the time the Whitlam govt Cynical funny and full of political knowledge you could actually learn things from reading his reports and commentary on politics right up to the 90’s and beyond He lived around Brunswick Heads and it’s pub till it got too gentrified and he relocated to the less salubrious Billinudgel Pub We don’t have journalists like that now Unfortunately Binge has a documentary on Charmain Clift made last year I think which I haven’t seen and a doco on Leonard and Marianne which I have a few years ago I also read recently that Leonard dedicated a concert or song to Charmain Clift and George Johnston in the early 80’s 2

keyse1 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 It’s a Bob Dylan kind of day Guess where I’ll be on Thursday 1 1
keyse1 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 “I wish I were on some Australian mountain range I got no reason to be there but I imagine it would be some kind of change” 2
keyse1 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Everything I know about politics comes from this song ”from the fools gold mouthpiece the hollow horn ” while others say don’t hate nothing at all except hatred” ”as human gods make everything from toy guns that spark to flesh coloured Christs that glow in the dark” and on it goes and of this bit the arrogance of youth ”and if my thought dreams could be seen they’d probably put my head in a guillotine” 2
keyse1 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Is this Bob’s greatest ever song Probably not But right now 2 beers in It sounds like it And contrary to what format fanatics think what makes it such a great song is Great lyrics A great singer And a group of musicians completely in synch with the singer who wrote it And a producer that knows all he has to do is catch it on tape 2 1
keyse1 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 I’m too old to look forward to things I prefer to look back towards last week or last century Especially with music Like most old people But I am looking forward to next Thursday I’m sure the week will take its own sweet time 1 1

April Snow Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) @keyse1 I enjoyed it too, but will admit to being a little disappointed in some parts for some reason? I think maybe due to all the the hype this has been given during promotion? I love how it showed the "electric" drama - that was worth the ticket price, I felt I was there and what a big deal that truly was - the cusp of something new to come. I may enjoy it more when I watch it again at home on my own big TV through the stereo system. Interstingly, for the first day of release, I was alone in that cinema (I expected a full house) - in fact I got locked in - I was banging on the door then on the phone ringing them to say I was locked inside I did get let out eventually. I recommend the movie - Johnny Cash almost stole the show though, and one would never lend him your car Edited January 23 by April Snow typo 2

I recommend the movie - Johnny Cash almost stole the show though, and one would never lend him your car I’m much too old and experienced for hype Although I do understand the feeling of disappointment I only read a couple of reviews of the film by movie critics and a few by Bob Dylan “fans fanatics or experts” For me I found the Woody Guthrie bits incredibly sad partly because of his relationship to Dylan but more because he is such a huge figure in American music on the same scale as Dylan Cash and Hank Williams It didn’t paint Bob as a saint And it captured I think his determination to be true to himself which always had consequences for friends and girlfriends After Blonde On Blonde Dylan was never the same twice on record Lots of other great little bits and pieces and despite not being a fan of other people singing his songs the actor really did capture the sound of his voice although I won’t be buying the soundtrack At the end of the movie they played Like A Rolling Stone over the sound system and that for me topped off the whole night 2
