6 CDs

Listening to bits and pieces

In the space of 14 months recorded Bringing it All Back Home Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde

Solo tour of UK Don't Look Back

Plugged in at Newport

Toured America with the Band as backing group and was booed around the world for his efforts

Some 14 months

Certainly holds your interest as it plays through multiple versions of most songs some of which are snippets

For fanatics another bit of the jig saw puzzle that is Dylan and how he gets from one thing to something completely different with his voice and music that goes from acoustic to electric and words that go from perfectly normal to obscure exercises in rhyme that are meaningless meaningful and beyond me all in the same song

Only Bob the level of interest to pull this off

I think I read that but it's true

I ordered the new Dylan bootleg box last weekend when JB had 20% off. It arrived late this afternoon, when I'd pretty much given up on it. The Squeeze is away for work. The kids have been farmed out for sleepovers. I have the house to myself and 6CDs from the sessions for my three favourite albums by my favourite artist. Sometimes things just fall into place.

I'm just finished the first disc but what a great package. Lovely raw mixes, good notes and a fascinating insight into his creative process. Moving at a million miles an hour. If we don't get it the first time back up and try it again. If we still don't get it move on to something else. I've got more rhymes.

Only trouble is I have to work in the morning.

For anyone in Brisbane The Last Waltz is being recreated at the Triffid by members of The Gin Club and assorted singers and players

Last year they did On The Beach and about another hour of Neil Young songs and it was great

Bernard Fanning is also singing

Can almost guarantee a great night if you like The Band or Bob Dylan

Bernard Fanning is also singing

Can almost guarantee a great night if you like The Band or Bob Dylan

When?

I'm no real fan of Bernard Fanning, but have seen The Gin Club, and have 2 of their albums. This'd be classic, and hope I'm on rostered days off so I can get along.

My hero

Happy birthday Bob

So many great records even without the stuff that was never released

An almost bottomless pit of great songs on shelves in storage rooms

I hope I live long enough to hear them all

This one makes me think

What were they thinking when they released Self Portrait but left these versions of the songs on the shelf

I saw that

Have you heard Another Self Portrait

Really is great with a similar singing voice to Nashville Skyline and includes a great version of If Not For You with violin

Yes indeed, brilliant.

I have been a big fan since the mid 70's (showing my age ;)).

He has so much great music in his catalogue its hard to have a favourite album as it all depends on what mood you are in or where the music takes you back to.

I don't think it is the best one but I do love it

4th best?

I do remember playing it to death a few years ago

And years before that pouring over the lyrics trying to understand them

And being non the wiser

Just might play that now for a while and get out the lyrics and not sing along to it

Never could understand how it went from the sound of Blonde On Blonde to this

Until I got The Basement Tapes and you can hear the very conscious efforts to change his singing style

Slow train coming every song is awesome that's why I have two copies on vinyl as well as the cd

I think this is one of his best Albums too, doesn't often get the kudos! Particularly enjoy the Knopfler Guitar work and the Pick Withers Drums throughout :)

These arrived today - on vinyl.

So far I've only had a chance to listen to some of the "Concert at Philharmonic Hall" and both the music and the sound quality are superb.

Here's something you can do

if you are fanatical helps

Vol 1-3 has the original version of Idiot Wind that he recorded in New York

Listen to that very mild acoustic almost sad with nary lyrics

then listen to The Blood On The Tracks version that he re recorded when he went home for Xmas still largely acoustic but a more emphatic vocal and music

and then have a listen to the live version on Hard Rain recorded for a tv special of the 2nd round of The Rolling Thunder Revue

This version is electric loud and vitriolic with the emphasis heavy on the nastiness at the heart of the song

all 3  versions have different lyrics

I'll try and do this later today.

Thanks

Got Fallen Angels the other day.  Just like Shadows in the Night.  Wonderful backing.  And the vocals - did I mention the backing is wonderful?  Is it me or is Bob struggling to get the pitch on a lot of the notes? At least it's more listenable than the Christmas album.  I would love to be able to afford the full Cutting Edge.
