The biggest issue at the moment with my system is the sense of hardness/brittleness/digititis???

Hi 701,

You would be more than welcome to pop round for a listen, but have a few issues going on at the moment, will let you know when things settle down a bit.

With regards to the Linn Lounge event. I think Dom and his team put on a really good show. The pizzas were great, plenty of drinks etc.

They were really welcoming and talked through their demo gear and their products, and they had a real passion for hifi and helping people get what they are after.

I must admit that I was a little underwhelmed with the sound on the night. It didn't sound bad, it just didn't have a lot of impact that I would expect from a system worth that much. The main reason I would think is the room. I think setup in a normal shaped room would yield much better results. I've heard a system in Perth with Sonus Faber and Naim 500 series gear worth $200 000 ish sound pretty average, as it was in the wrong room, I think this was the case here. Hopefully they will have them setup in a dedicated room so they can sound their best in the future, which I'm sure Dom will take care of.

I hope I haven't upset anyone and I really appreciate the guys putting the night on and also for the door prize, thankyou.

Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for the offer & will take you up on that. Please do contact me when things are good for you.

I would also agree with you regarding the night, Don & company put on a very nice event with supplied food & drinks & appeared genuinely enthusiastic regarding Hifi & related business.

I have also heard expensive systems, though perhaps not quite in the $200,000 mark, sound pretty ordinary as well. Best sound I have ever heard were Duntech Sovereigns through a LP based source I think with solid state amps (Vince Ross). Remember speaking to Vince one day & he mentioned he had to stop giving demo's to those not in the market for them because in essence the sound quality was such that listening to other equipment was generally perceived as somewhat disappointing. Audio memory may be a fickle thing so that now I may not be as enamored, but this experience of only a few songs heard has been my highlight & benchmark for Hifi.

Hi Flemo,

I have been for some time now wondering the same thing, but unfortunately the cost of acquiring replacement LP's etc against the convenience of CD or electronic playback (programmable tracks - don't like all tracks on some albums] plus my hope that I can get a sound which has at its core an effortless non-fatiging quality from the medium is what I am striving for (in vain says the LP crowd ;-).

The Journey continues,,,
