Phil G Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 What better day to walk on over to the dark side?? Today I took delivery of a tt rig supplied to me by Warwick. It consists on the Acoustic Signature Mambo turntable, Jelco arm, ZYX Ayame cart (on-trial) and RCM Sensor phono stage (on loan) Enjoying getting to know the player and the records I have.
Voltaire Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 And I was told that "Black Friday" was named after a Steely Dan song! damn! The next thing will be someone telling be that Steely Dan was originally powered by STEAM ............................................F.G.S.! V

JA Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Congrats on the new TT setup LD. The Silver on black is a great look. PS: Now that vinyl is on the table, what's next: tubes? Best JA
davidsss Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Ooooh, that looks very nice. Bit beyond my price range but those Acoustic Signature decks sure are tempting. DS
norpus Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Nice works there LD PS the pricing on the black pancakes is v reasonable in Aucktown tonite - 30NZD seems very fair for the discs seen The many sacds at Marbecks won my money however as I don't have a working pancake spinner currently
Andythiing Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 OOHH Yeahhh Baby - Got my Mojo Working And like that Beth Orton albumn as well Fantastic investment you wont regret it
Voltaire Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I look at this stuff and, yes, ok, I admit it, I am green whith the envy curse. Kiat keeps telling me to get back into the black pancakes................. It is just having to remember all of them that I gave away 10 years ago that is Soooooo painful!!!! Oh the pain, the pain! V' internatial.
Moondog Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Good News LD , Now that You have cleaned out the kiddies room , You can now go to Yours .
jaspert Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Drool... Congrats. Love the second last shot, as if the Mambo is spot lit on a stage to strut its stuff. Can i come back for another listen?

Best JA Hi JA Nope, no tubes coming (ever). Just the odd record here and there. I believe this will be my last upgrade brag for a very long time. Flipp'n records and changing nappies for me! The black top that the TT is sitting on is made from corian, which was recommended to me by Warwick, who has been extremely helpful and giving of his advice. I copied mondies fabricated table and all the hollow section is filled with garnet and fine gravel. I'll post more on my thoughts in a week or so. One thing is clear to me though, all records (even new ones) really need to be cleaned very well.

Hi Jasper, Come over anytime! Just bring your RCM The Ayame cart is a rather sexy beast, all nuded up! We tried the Fuji cart initially, but just like always happens, the bloody dearer one sounded heaps better. Depressingly better!

Aslan Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 The big question LD..............first pic, top right hand corner..............have you played it yet? The second question is 'wasn't "Sister Drum" available on black pancake?'
proftournesol Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 you are a lucky dog aren't you:-) i saw your turntable at Warwicks - pretty cool looking machine:-) Watch out for that RCM Sensor, I've got one on loan too and I really can't see it going back to Warwicks. I wish he'd loan me something that made my system sound worse so that I could just send it back:-) It certainly is a good match for a XYX. It'll be a while before you can bear to play a CD again.
mondie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Welcome to the Pleasuredome LD Thats a lovely setup with a very serious cartridge, there is no going back from a trialer like that. Great selection of records, which kate Bush album is that - have not heard it? How's Ryan Adams, l had read his LP's are pretty bass heavy but not sure if it was this album the comments related too. Oh, and we need some pics of your table. Cheers, Mondie
Chickenism Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 LuckyDog, Congratulations! A wonderful looking turntable that (more importantly) no doubt sounds as good as it looks. Wishing you many years of enjoyment. Best, Dave. PS Nice photos too

Oh, and we need some pics of your table. Cheers, Mondie Firstly, Andrew Yeah that Dadawa album 'Seven Days', so far I have only played a few tracks and it is very nice indeed. Looking forward to getting more acquainted with it. I have 'Sister Drum' on order. I was hoping it would get here today, but the boys at the Aust Post letter centre went on strike today over the loss of Sunday loading (hope they get it back), so no Sister Drum! The art work is bloody brilliant. Hi mondie. I thought 4D was coming, but Ayame instead. There are only so many pennies, so we will see what takes up permanent residence! The Kate Bush album is 'The Kick Inside" Canadian (I think) Import with different artwork. I have not got to Ryan Adams yet. I've been buying heaps of music over the past month and today has been my first chance to spin anything. It should be a fun weekend. I got my wife interested enough to come for a listen, so I played her some virgin Metalica, but it has heaps of surface noise and she was bewildered clearly at my decision to get into vinyl. Then I played her 'Hey Ninteen' on my $6 second hand copy and she loved it. A used Stevie Wonder spin also had her boppin away. She agreed that it does sound pretty bloody good.

LuckyDog, Welcome to the dark side Glad to have you on board, finally Has anyone told you what a great rig you have...errr, the turntable I mean. Very tasty, and that nude cartridge is a very brave jump for a virgin. I love 'em - kinda scary (careful with the dusting) but oddly attractive. And that record collection. Belafonte to Metallica. Bush to Orbison. Eclectic falls short as a description. No one can accuse you of being closed in your musical tastes. I trust you get great enjoyment from that wonderful system of yours. It's a cracker :o cheers 2sheds
