shaky Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Completely missed this thread but was put on to it by @@Upfront (Thanks Linc). Would be very interested to see if you're any closer to nailing down details Mike.
Upfront Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Maybe someone can pry some details out of him with some wine at tomorrows GTG mate!
markm1111 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Not sure if this has been mentioned, but what about a centre speaker to match existing Lenehan speakers? They are quite often hidden, don't need the full range of a left or right speaker as they usually only carry dialogue and atmospherics. I have used a single ML-1 as a centre in the past, but in my newly renovated house I couldn't fit in a vertical centre speaker, and need a horizontal one. I know I could lay down the ML-1, but that isn't quite right. Kit MTM would be perfect if it was designed to match ML-1s Just a thought anyway 1
DoggieHowser Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Actually Mike has designed an MTM speaker based on the ML2 before.
markm1111 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Didn't know that. So he is open to the idea. With the number of pairs of ML-1s around, an ML-1 equivalent could be a popular possibility....Mike?

Kit MTM would be perfect if it was designed to match ML-1s Just a thought anyway Hi Mark yes there is both an ML1 and ML2 centre channel available ! I have so far built them to order only . not sure if these will be available yet in kit form yet but it's on the cards I guess. Hi Mike, First off, I'm a DIY novice and really appreciate what you are trying to do here. You mentioned the kit enclosure will more than likely be pine, will there also be templates provided if customers wish to use veneered mdf or similar to go with their own more upmarket finish? Also will you recommend a sliding scale of improvements to be made via internal damping materials etc? Hi blybo they will be made from MDF but the bracing will be ply and possibly some steel rod. Damping materials will be the best available as no compromise is possible here. Xovers will initially be up to LenehanAudio standards with 12awg inductors bypassed Metalised Polypropelene capacitors and low TC non inductive wire wound resistors. This will mean way above the level of most expensive retail offerings. There will be opportunities to offer SOTA parts after the initial release . Regards Mike Lenehan

Sparkle Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I think this will be pretty exciting! I think many people would like to build something, but also want good results, so this looks like the answer! Still, 4 - 6 weeks is a bit long to hold ones breathe!
blybo Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Hi shaky around 4 to 6 weeks before the first 8inch two way is ready to prototype I would say. Regards Mike Hi Mike, any update on how this is travelling? Got a birthday coming up 2nd half of March and significant other is starting to ask for ideas....

evil c Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Hi Mike, any update on how this is travelling? Got a birthday coming up 2nd half of March and significant other is starting to ask for ideas.... A gift voucher could work - with another small present in the interim to tide you over!

Believe me, I know what it's like.

andyr Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 If your first WATT is crap why would you need more? C'mon k12 ... if the first watt is crap ... it becomes even crappier having to drive 2 drivers simultaneously! Simples! Andy

andyr Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) Hi Mike, Your concept is very enticing. In 8 months time, I need a speaker whose dimensions are: width ~250 height 350-400 depth ... doesn't really matter ... does the kit you are envisaging fit in with these dimensions? I am sure it will be a great-sounding speaker - and your suggested price point is just about right, IMO! The only problem, in my eyes, is how as a DIYer who is neither a spray painter or a french polisher, I can get a decent cabinet finish, with MDF? Regards, Andy Edited February 27, 2015 by andyr
Ihearmusic Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I would respond but I have lost the passion for audio too many deaf ppl around ????how can one loose passion for something so personal like audio? Is it because ppl don't agree with your perception on how good audio should sound like?
davewantsmoore Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I would respond but I have lost the passion for audio too many deaf ppl around I find it hard to fathom how your own passion for audio could depend on the "deafness" of others. 1

Johnnygohard Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm desperately hanging on for a kit! Of any size! This is killing me!!! Aaahhhhh
