"Age and life stage From a generational perspective, Millennials and Gen Z are foremost among the next wave of EV purchasers, with 25% considering an EV. The majority of Baby Boomers remain unconvinced, however, with just 9% willing to consider one. Given many Baby Boomers may be looking to downsize vehicles and take shorter trips as they settle into retirement, boosting awareness and consideration of EVs among this group may benefit them greatly." Boomers also do stand out from rest of generations with only 2% of ev owners where as other generations sit at 6-7%.... parents with kids most likely with 7% and 4% with individuals without kids and 2% of empty nesters... again this data is 12 months or so old now.. and this is a fastly changing space... Wow looks like I'm in the 2% of the baby boomers. Had my BYD Seal Performance for just over 13 months now an amzing EV and still loving everytime I drive it, don't miss the petrol FWD. 1 1

betty boop Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 on that note the stinger is coming back... Kia Stinger is back! New-gen hi-po electric model in the works: Report "The Kia Stinger looks to be making a dramatic return with the company president admitting work has begun on a high-performance electric sedan to sit at the top of its global range." “The EV market is getting stronger, and I do not worry long term about EV uptake,” Song said. "If Kia was to use the same E-GMP platform as EV6 and the recently debuted EV9 GT the EV Stinger could also have the same dual motors but with a combined output of 500kW and a supercar-rivalling 0-100km/h time of under three seconds." 1

betty boop Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 (edited) for folks wondering what long interstate trips are like with evs... this article below is a good one.. Really long EV road trips are actually not that hard – with better route planning https://thedriven.io/2025/02/02/really-long-ev-road-trips-are-actually-not-that-hard-with-better-route-planning/ This got me thinking about planning a few really long trips in ABRP and seeing what the DC charging network is like these days to reach places I might not normally drive to. We all know someone who thinks they need to drive non-stop from the east coast to Perth, so I even considered that journey! These trips were all planned with ABRP set to my car model (Hyundai IONIQ 5 long range rear wheel drive). It assumes I leave Canberra with a 100% charge and ensures that I arrive at the final destination with at least 10% charge. note the caveat, this is for folks wanting to do non stop driving... as he says the sensible thing is to stop every couple of hours... as government adds and signs will pass along the way say to rest, revive and survive... All of these journeys bar one assume non-stop driving. Of course, it’s usually only the people who want to drive to Perth tomorrow that would consider doing it non-stop. (Ed: And safety regulators recommend a stop every two hours!). he also makes the good point of multiple shorter stops are also better than charging to 100% which some think is better... good illustration is on the page prior the melb canberra trip that someone did needing one 50min of charging stop with some anxiety and thinking couldn't use aircon.. well as can see below ... with 2 stops he could have done the same trip only charging 40min whcih is closer to the half hour stop he typically does with his ice car .... it also builds some redundancy so incase a charger is down in some location its not a major drama can head to next cars do matter in above i plugged into ABRP the exact car he used... and so can see what would need to do.. https://abetterrouteplanner.com if i plug in our polestar long range 2 ... its even better - it only needs 25min of charging and can do in 2 stops ... 19 min and 6min... whcih is what likely do in reality anyways no matter the car given the long distance to travel... over 6 hours of driving .. i would stop twice and say this having driven a lot over the years... long hours long stretches etc... LHC Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Recently this thread expressed reservation about the videos of youtuber 'The Electric Viking'. At least he has the courage to lay out verifiable predictions based on his claims. At the 0:44 mins mark of his Mazda video he stated that: Mazda (in their current state as a car maker) stands zero chance of survival beyond 2035; and he would be surprised if Mazda could even make it to 2030. His prediction is that Mazda will be taken over by someone at some point during that period. There you have it. We shall know in a few short years if the Viking has any credibility.

Clearly its fueled by the feelings people have with musk being part of the current administration and his questionable behaviours/actions of which this post should not be construed as having a view on the matter, but they made me chuckle: Deplorian Swasticar I'm sure there will be more. Again, don't take this as an invitation to drag this into the political; it's just an isolated segue. 1

AudioGeek Posted February 7 Posted February 7 44 minutes ago, aussievintage said: Yes, it's a problem - all those Evs running on coal. About 45% of Aus electricity production is from coal, 17% from gas, the rest "renewable". Although the proportion of renewable is slowly increasing. A lot of EV owners are in the home solar camp. Difficult to calculate what proportion of EVs are "running" on coal. Probably also relates to time of day they are being charged. Not sure how I feel about it. Although digging up and burning our own coal intuitively seems better - than buying and shipping oil from dodgy regimes around the world!

I think it would be great to be totally green, but I honestly can't see any way to achieve it with the current state of things. A big rethink is coming... 1
