LHC Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Interesting article in the Australian Financial Review reporting on a survey commissioned by the Australian Automotive Dealers Association (AADT) that found demand for electric vehicles had “stagnated”. “After showing some modest growth between 2022 and early 2024, intention for EVs as a next main (or other) vehicle has remained flat over the past 10 months,” the report reads. https://www.afr.com/companies/transport/evs-can-t-shake-sceptical-motorists-despite-steep-price-falls-20250204-p5l9hf “It is quite surprising that given EV prices have been dropping that consumers are so reticent to adopt this new technology,” said AADA chief executive James Voortman of the survey’s findings. “They are looking closely at the depreciation levels and the costs of repair.” Some interesting survey data are posted below The last graphics confirmed that personal opinion of Elon Musk does impact Tesla purchasing decision, either negatively or positively, but only for a minority of potential buyers. 4

betty boop Posted February 25 Author Posted February 25 Polestar 4 doing well to win Drive's best luxury car under $100k....having seen one its a fine looking thing inside and out and seems to perform pretty well too ... Polestar 4 wins Best Luxury Car under $100K Luxury can be a difficult concept to define, but Polestar makes a clear statement of contemporary luxury https://www.drive.com.au/news/polestar-4-wins-best-luxury-car-under-100k/ "In the case of Best Luxury Car under $100K the field of competitors was so strong that any of the three finalists could comfortably wear the crown. Discussion boiled down to elements like refinement, interior finishes, and other granular elements of what it takes to be considered a true luxury car.~ ~Ultimately the impressive electric powertrain was the deciding factor. All EVs deliver smooth and quiet performance, but Polestar’s experiences in EVs and attention to detail mean that road and wind noise are minimised to reduce outside interruptions. The judges praised the Polestar 4’s sure-footed handling. No easy feat with the instant torque of the electric powertrain delivering up to 400kW in dual-motor guise. Despite the performance potential, the Polestar 4 feesl predictable and secure across a variety of road conditions. " 1

2Brix Posted March 3 Posted March 3 just noticed this motoring news of earlier today I'll be considering a EV at my next car changeover, but for me no hurry and likely to be at least 1 to 2 years away. Toyota recalls 1.85 million RAV4s in the US due to fire risk, Australian impact unclear https://www.drive.com.au/news/toyota-rav4-recall-us-battery-clamp-australia-unknown/ More than 1.85 million Toyota RAV4s have been recalled in the US, owing to incorrectly-sized battery clamps – increasing the risk of a fire. Toyota Australia is yet to comment on whether the fault affects local models. Ranger PHEVs will also be the only variants of the ute to include external power outlets, consisting of a 2.3kW (2300W) outlet in the cabin and two 3.45kW (3450W) outlets in the bed. The Ford Ranger PHEV is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, with a 75kW electric motor sandwiched between it and the 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford is targeting 45km of electric-only driving range, allowing owners to complete short journeys without burning any fuel. 45km is not a lot... which is likely 30 or so km in reality .. which is average daily commute as per ABS... so will cover that for some folk...
