betty boop Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 (edited) many i am sure are thinking tesla has fallen off a cliff actually their main seller in model Y is in-between model refreshes ... and with orders opened eg for the RWD version has already sold out .. with stock only coming in may... thats even before can test drive the thing with that only possible in April... and even sight unseen as only going on show now with the everything electric show now on... no interest here to get one, but new one looks far better than old one.. old one actually looks quite plain jane by comparison ! ..good to see as though their highest sales was its ugly duckling in the range cant see too many model Y selling till this lands... https://www.drive.com.au/news/2025-tesla-model-y-arrives-in-australia/ 2025 Tesla Model Y demand ‘very strong’ as first examples arrive in Australia While its deliveries are down, Tesla says interest in the new Model Y is "very strong", with Australian deliveries on track for May – and test drives commencing late April. "From an order point of view, we're really happy with what we've got, very strong demand," Drew told Drive, when asked about interest in the new model. "As you might've seen recently, we sold out our allocation of the Rear-Wheel-Drive [Launch Series] car, so [we're] just still selling through the remainder of the Launch [Series] Long Range All-Wheel Drive. Topman_Chief Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Looks better than the old one, but still not a good looking car. Elon's involvement will continue to hurt them, so fingers crossed he can be bought out. The silver lining in the meantime is that Tesla will need to discount harder, which will help drive down ev market prices. 2

From the reviews i've seen the interior looks a bit dated but i dont mind too much (and i own a VW Tiguan now so i'm used to it ) and i think probably has a few more knobs/buttons than some of the EVs and if so that's a trade off i'd be OK with. 2Brix Posted March 7 Posted March 7 i really like the idea discussed in this review about battery renting, reducing the risk to owner and i think significantly reducing the depreciation amount i.e. next owner doesnt have to factor in being left with an out of warranty battery pack and potential $20-30K or whatever the secretive price is for a battery change out if they happen to be at the unlucky end of the battery life bell curve.

VW copped some flac originally with these they removed buttons and made them quite screen based.. a new VW head came along and said just because we make ev they dont need be like space ships .. so they put buttons and controls back.. a lot of cars are minimising buttons for screens these days .. so hopefully these now have a better blend of the two as some things definitely work well with screens and some things buttons/dials and knobs and real controls. .. eg with mazda we had ...would drive us made you couldn't touch screen to do things.. and to use jog dial.. my mini allows either ... our polestar is more scandi minimalist so a lot screen but also quite bit of real controls .. eg vol knobs buttons on wheel etc..door buttons/button to open boot... all kind of essentials ... 1

betty boop Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 Not sure how many folks are getting to the everything electric show in Sydney. Seems like a really good turn out from makers/brands Seen few reports from show so far, Seen photos from Stan the kangaroo island polestar owner Also YouTubes from both Neerav (I like his non hyped 7 highlights and walkthrough) Also the ludicrous feed walk through No doubt the best for some is likely the no pressure ability contest drive so many ev in the one place … looking forward to Melbourne …
Topman_Chief Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Do test drive bookings for the Everything Electric Sydney show only open on the day? From what I could see, bookings are done directly with each manufacturer at their stand, not a single booking system. So if you want 4-5 back to back drives you’ll need to get there early and book first thing? I’m keen for a bunch of test drives at the Melbourne show in Nov.

betty boop Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 next gen volvos ... My obvious bias aside, the Chinese are definitely leading the legacy automakers in EV development, and the fusion of Scandinavian design DNA within Geely is almost best of both worlds. 1

Yeah am loving the interior exterior designs. Why we were hooked on polestar once checked it out. They have got it just the right between blend of Scandi design without going to minimalistic … ie without dropping driver displays and indicator stalks and what not.

Said that if you buy a show ticket early some manufacturers let you book early, but for most you need to book at the show on the day. 2

MM, not sure saw the official volvo live reveal for the es90... my goodness they have gone to some effort.. they obviously see it as a pretty important model for themselves and given history of volvos released (and yep they even pulled out the historic models for the occasion). ps also in this presentation... using quite a few folks from across volvo ..theres the lady who is head of the shanghai design office... she accidentally (well actually its deliberately) opens a door with the ex60 there and needing a cover up *oops* she says "not this door" ... haha ... thats why the ex60 has suddenly popped back in the news i think.. anyways a good watch ...or skip through as i did.. as its pretty long some 35 min ! volvo ex60 tease around 25min mark...

LHC Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Don't think this has been discussed previously in this thread but I may be wrong. The use of battery swapping station for EV is a simple concept that even a school child could dream up, but real world implementation faces huge unsolved systems engineering challenges. Yes, 'battery-as-a-service' is promising but can the global EV community come together to overcome these challenges? This video report on the latest trends in this front.

Briz Vegas Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Found a comparison on the inter webs of the Renault 5 vs Pug e208. They concluded the Pug was better but the Renault won because it was close and for its styling and “desirability”. Car Advice recently leaked the price for the e208 for Australia, indicating it’s not far away. $49,990. That’s GTI money and Peugeot are not doing great in Australia, but I would love a car where the CEO has no profile and I am still nostalgic for my 20 years with a 306. At the very least I will do a test drive and find how painful it will be to move on the EV I never expected to be moving on. The Pug is probably a more risky long term proposition as Tesla has proven tech that will do 300,000km. If the e208 drives anything like a 306, or even the 208 GTI I almost bought if not for abysmal ergonomics thanks to an armrest, well, anything could happen. 1
