Iano Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Tis a great album. I think I'll put that on now, in fact :oApparently, apparently, the album is something different again if you listen to the songs in a different order! The order being: 6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10 by song number. I'm yet to do it, but hell - to begin an album with the Parabol/Parabola combo must some at least SOME merit Also my favourite TOOL album. The fact it's HDCD is icing on the cake. The production glistens compared to 10,000 days
mrporcelain Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Great Japanese Doom... I never thought I'd see someone posting about coffins on this board, that's for sure... Lately I've been spinning the new Arghoslent 'hornets of the pogrom', first skitsystem 'gra varld...' and martyrdod 'in extremis'. 2
PWilson Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Oh my... to think I just discovered this thread Currently been getting into some black metal Dimmu Borgir In both it's orignal and rerecorded forms. A good listen, with a great tempo on the rerecorded version. Dissection as well as their earlier The Somberlain. Both have been great albums. Probably more on the melodic side than black metal would tend to be though. But finds I've been very happy with. And then spending more time with Dream Theater - Images & Words and Awake (I've really focussed on their later, more metal work till recently, but quite enjoying these as well). Metallica - Master of Puppets has been getting airply again In Flames - Lunar Strain, which has a distinctly folky feel to it 2

patjoy Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Hi PatjoyI have both these albums they are good like the Transatlantic more than Vanden …. You could check these albums from Riverside - Second Life Syndrome Riverside - Rapid Eye Movement http://www.riverside.art.pl/eng/main.html Link for Riverside video your tube Hi JiriAU I have all the Riverside cds but I think Second Life Syndrome is their best. Great band. Great guitar work. Can't wait for a concert dvd. Prefer them to Vanden Plas as well. Have a listen to Signal to Noise Ratio by Dead Air Radio. http://deadairradio.musiccitynetworks.com/
PWilson Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 If they are the 24bit/96kHz versions, they're well worth getting - I've only ever seen one vinyl rip of each album at that quality, and I believe that's all there is circulating. Aenima especially, because ... well, the vinyl itself is as rare as hens teeth - and very pricey to boot if you were to ever come across one being sold. Once I heard about these, I ran off to grab a copy... I have to say... there's definitely a difference in the master. The vinyl rip is certainly less bright, and the bass sounds a little better perhaps. But argh!! The surface noise. Surely this is not representative of vinyl in general. It's horribly intrusive. Why would someone go the effort of 24/96 FLAC rips if the actual transfer is so shite? The copy I got was a discography, but only Undertow/Aenima/Lateralus are vinyl rips. I stopped it after I got H and The Grudge downloaded, so I could have a listen. H is more affected by noise than The Grudge. Didn't get any Undertow songs through, but not sure I'm going to if these other two are representative...

patjoy Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Great stuff right there. Next to PT on of the best prog rock bands around. Absolutely, Riverside are a gem! PT are in a league of their own and Steven Wilson is a genius. The remastered Lightbulb Sun is great. However, I still long for a Transatlantic reunion and another of their 30min epics
waricle Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 There seems to be a common theme in the label art.......

Dr X Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 This thing blows thunder. Moral of the story...Don't %@#$*! with germans
metal beat Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Been playing garage days over the past week. What is the new album like??
Dr X Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I am enjoying Death Magnetic. It's very long at 74 mins? Music is good, lyrics not so good. I downloaded the Guitar Hero 3 version which is much better than the compressed CD version. There is another thread on it. I did actually buy the album so I don't feel bad about torrenting it. I think Metallica are rich enough anyway. I think it's at least the best album since Black. Actually the song arrangements and guitars are much more interesting than Black IMO. Cheers.
hired goon Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 G'day, Been playing garage days over the past week. What is the new album like?? I've listened to "Death Magnetic" a few times now ... it kinda sits stylistically between "Master of Puppets" and "... And Justice For All", and gets one thumb up from me, but strewth is it a crappy experience with all the volume compression and clipping. I would have bought it otherwise. --Geoff
PWilson Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) This thing blows thunder. Moral of the story...Don't %@#$*! with germans Have been listening to the same album! Along with some Dark Angel and Sadus (all of which can be recommended for old school thrash). Re Death Magnetic - I find it to sit more between AJFA and Load, personally. It's definitely got some bluesier moments a la Load, and personally, I don't think the quality of the metal on offer comes close to touching MoP. It's not a bad listen though. Regarding the quality - there are people that have uploaded rips from the Xbox/Playstation game Guitar Hero. The versions released for the game apparently have real dynamic range, and far less clipping/distortion. I still remember streaming the first single... and the first thing I did was reach over and turn the volume down. And it still clipped like buggery. Edited September 30, 2008 by PWilson Oops. Glossed over Dr. X's post - GH3 version already mentioned! 1
unclemack Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I think Metallica are rich enough anyway. Cheers. Oh? How rich are they? I'm sure they will feel much better having you there to decide how much they should earn... well done. Best we look at every other artist whose product we enjoy and let them know that whilst we want them to keep making music for OUR enjoyment, we would prefer that they don't profit from it, or, at the very least, not profit too much. Cheers M
Dr X Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Oh? How rich are they? They are rich unclemack, stinking rich. I'm sure they will feel much better having you there to decide how much they should earn... well done. Thanks, but they are so rich I doubt they care what you and I think. Best we look at every other artist whose product we enjoy and let them know that whilst we want them to keep making music for OUR enjoyment, we would prefer that they don't profit from it, or, at the very least, not profit too much. I'm all for supporting artists and for them to make a profit.

Dr X Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 James H is reported to have anywhere from a few hundred million to 1.4billion. What I meant was, they can afford to have me download their new album and still make a killing. Remember I did buy Death Magnetic and then downloaded the superior GH3 version from a torrent which is not even readily available for purchase unless you have the game I believe? I'll be buggered if I'm going to purchase an expensive PS3 game just so I can have a properly mastered version of the album.

I know they're filthy rich and my point is that a comment like that is what I hear from download dickheads who, unlike your self, don;t buy the music justifying it by saying exactly that. It grates with me 'cause these arseholes don't support the artists, just leech off them. Just having a go at the use of the term, not your practices. Cheers M
patjoy Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Full steam ahead prog fusion. classic live Rush.
