likwidsh0k Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Spinning 10,000 days at the moment but am gonna go and try out the latest Opeth. Edit- well, three tracks in and am yet to hear anything that resembles metal in any way. Nice music/vocals though! Well put down etc. That one's not metal Daz, they went to their proggie influences on their last two, Heritage & Pale Communion, Deliverance & Blackwater Park will be quite the contrast 1
Monk Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Earth -Angels of darkness, Demons of Light 1 I'll have to have a listen to that one. Got II and like it a lot. And I remembered that I wanted to get some Godflesh after liking their set at Soundwave, so hit up Bandcamp again. Damn. Might just be my mood today, but this is really hitting the spot. Not sure the neighbours agree though, so will have to turn it down pretty shortly, but until then, on with some heavy industrial riffs played loudly. \m/ 5
NeilNZ Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 All Earth stuff is sublime, probably my faves are Hex, and Bees though. Might give Godflesh a listen after I finish listening to Ulver.
Satanica Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 FF spins.. first track immediately very Digimortal, then at 2:08 I almost fell of my chair?!? But damn its catchy. Not sure yet, Mechanize was FF but still managed to sound fresh, this does sound like re-warmed Obsolete & Digimortal. Or maybe considering how distinct their sound is, too soon after Mechnize to hear more? Two spins of Genexus and I'm impressed. This could have come out right after Demanufacture or Obsolete. It might, just might be better than Mechanize I kid you not even though it's a bit less aggressive. PS: Deliverance from Opeth is a must listen. It's in my top three Opeth with Still Life and Damnation. 1
RockandorRoll Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Earth -Angels of darkness, Demons of Light 1 Giving this a spin on Spotify right now, ive never heard of them but the artwork gives me a Clutch feel. At first sound its a bit more Neurosis very cool, thanks! 1

Darren69 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) PS: Deliverance from Opeth is a must listen. It's in my top three Opeth with Still Life and Damnation. Am not really liking Opeth, am not much into Cookie Monster stuff but the musicianship is at a high level. Such a huge difference too, between their early and later albums, interesting when bands do this, it would turn their fan bases on their heads. Hey, variety is the spice of life! Haven't really found anything new and fresh since I got into Mastadon a year or so ago and then sort of re-discovered SOAD. This OSI mob looks and sounds interesting though. dalegod Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I have a tendency to follow certain independent record labels: Southern Lord is really good. A lot of stoner, doom, avant garde, and black metal (and crust punk) Profound Lore is similar to Southern Lord. Hydra Head is pretty good too Rise Above Records is pretty good too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
NeilNZ Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I was like that for a long time... I have everything Misanthropy Records ever released before their demise... I did get a hell of a lot of stuff for free back in the day from when I had a metal radio show... 1
dalegod Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 And I forgot Grimoire Cassette Cvlture. An awesome cassette label who release a lot of cassette versions of other labels stuff, but they also have their own roster. KEEPER are ******* brutally awesome Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Satanica Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Am not really liking Opeth, am not much into Cookie Monster stuff but the musicianship is at a high level. Fair enough, they ain't my favourite music either.

Took me a few listens to get them too Daz, so can only recommend maybe give it time, like all good things, especially tunes, I find it often takes a few goes for it to click. I love their new stuff just as much as their old stuff, as there was enough of the new proggie mixed in with the death metal in the early gear, plus Mikael has a pretty amazing voice. Yeah Mastodon rocks! Maybe could try Devin Townsend?? Cool, more listens required Sweet, will give it burl too, I was a bit concerned with all the mellow gear on Damnation that Deliverance would be.. No doubt about ya, @@likwidsh0k "All death metal, all the time" \m/ \m/ Cheers, Leigh
Darren69 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Shall give it a go @@likwidsh0k I enjoy Mastadon as they all have a go at singing, which keeps the albums sort of fresh. Shame I missed them in Brissy earlier in the year. 1

Shame I missed them in Brissy earlier in the year. Blackwater Park has Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree singing backing vocals on four tracks, pretty cool to spot them, and he also sings on ShutDOWN on OSI's first album. For some more Mastodon, completely forgot about these guys, definitely check out Baroness too, spinning now.. Baroness - Blue Record Plenty of incredible artwork floating around SNA by their bassist John Dyer Baizley too.. eg. Kvelertak S/T album cover.. 1

I think Heritage did turn a lot of people off, they went more prog less metal. Deliverance was a nice experiment and i think people understood what they were getting. But now i believe Akerdfelt (Sp?) has said he is happy with the bands direction. I started with Still Life and have bought pretty much everything since, and my music tastes have developed with the bands direction, so its actually been a good journey. I could see some fans jumping though. The only forgetable album for me was Watershed, no real reason, i just haven't given it a proper listen. 2

I sampled Watershed tracks on Amazon first and it was Porcelain Heart's immense riff/loud/soft that blew my tiny mind, actually started with Reveries, Watershed and then worked back to Still Life, later was gifted a triple pack of Orchid, Morningrise, and My Arms, Your Hearse I think I gave one of them a spin but that was pretty much it, must return Mentioned a little while back fear Watershed had so many ideas before losing the metal that all got lumped on top of each other and at times a bit cheesy, still worth another listen I reckon, spinning it now..
