Blackwater Park has Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree singing backing vocals on four tracks, pretty cool to spot them, and he also sings on ShutDOWN on OSI's first album.

For some more Mastodon, completely forgot about these guys, definitely check out Baroness too, spinning now..

Baroness - Blue Record

Plenty of incredible artwork floating around SNA by their bassist John Dyer Baizley too.. eg. Kvelertak S/T album cover..

I've met a bloke who's actually got that Kverlertak album cover as an upper arm tattoo. Amazing art. Sadly I can't come at Baroness. But the albums are almost worth buying for the cover art

Agree with all that. Albums art is amazing and would make brilliant full size wall-art, pretty sure said that here somewhere..

Yeah probably the first rec here that not really a fan of myself, sounds like Mastodon-lite to me, the vocals just don't have the same ferocious edge and the drumming sounds almost rudimentary by comparison. Probably deserves a full listen but after about four tracks in I lose interest, but that album is raved about in reviews, why I posted it for Daz, even going as far as to claim the best metal album of 2009.. over Crack the Skye???

Yes, I tried Baroness some time ago when Likky suggested them but they didn't float my boat.

I cant say that too much though cos he might stop making suggestions to me. :D

Crack the Skye was a low point for mastodon for me... But their others have been awesome! Haven't heard the latest one yet

First album so perhaps a certain fondness there, but love me the more lengthy song journeys, and finding them after Porcupine Tree and Opeth was a nice fit.. progression, if you will (groans).. so I do lurve Crack the Skye.

On the playlist today..

I did mention them before eh Daz.. hmm.. probably for the same reason. Yeah don't float my boat either.

Yeah, I was about to ask you your favourite metal/hard-rock albums, as was starting to wonder if I was helping :D

You tried Kylesa? They have a new album in October & static tensions/spiral shadow/ultra violet are great fun.

Cool thanks, Leviathan now numero dos on today's playlist.

And if you haven't already, "foundation of burden" by Pallbearer. Clean vocal doom, with proggy tendenciesafec51417a677750f55a1499aabaaa40.jpg

Saw them when they toured in June. They were quite special

Didn't like Mastadons earlier stuff, everything after Leviathan is awesome IMO. Regularly spinning.

@@dalegod persevere because it eventually grew on me. Sometimes they do, as likky previously described.

My faves- will check when I get home so I don't miss any.

All their albums until and including spiral shadow are fantastic - for me static tensions and time will fuse its worth are the pick but yes spiral shadow well worth a listen

Ultra violet stinks - and in case you ever have the opportunity to see Kylesa live - stay home and listen to the albums. I've seen them twice and was bitterly disappointed both times, their records are awesome, live they SUCK!

in my very humble opinion of course...

I didn't mind Ultra Violet in places actually.  Although it was also the first album I heard.  Do like Static Tensions as well.

I am only a casual listener though, not a big fan.

Glad I dodged that bullet. Heathen Skulls are usually spot on with their tour picks.

Yeah I had tickets & was in town (Perth) for the Melvins but Kylesa cancelled & couldn't get down to their postponed gig. Of the clips I've seen on utube, the chick should scream only live, so I think you're on to something.

Another band worth checking out is Blackwitch Pudding. I got a demo cassette from their bandcamp, and they thru in a free CD of their album. The cassette was ok, but the album ripped. Doom/psych, but they don't take themselves at all seriously. Hence the name, merch, album cover/title. But they're radb05527b6170b18b2c5e95378ad2dab94.jpg
