BuzzzFuzzz Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Thanks to @Janjuc, who posted this on 'Currently Spinning' Having a listen now on youtube... Ian Gillan & Tony Iommi 'Who Cares' 2012 EarMUSIC. A charity Album to rebuild a music school in Armenia (destroyed by earthquake), including Jason Newstead, Nico McBrain and Jon Lord, who passed away three days after release, making this his final recording. Featuring previously released and new material with rarities as well (wiki). The pairing of Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath for the Album 'Born Again' was, for me, a match made in heaven or hell. Production values aside, it's still one of my favourite albums of the time. 3
BuzzzFuzzz Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Hey guys. In a tricky situation. I've posted these on 'Currently Spinning' as I like to include some Metal there now and then. But I also like to keep this Metal thread alive, so please forgive my double posts. After Gillan & Iommi 'Who Cares', I had to give this a wash and a spin... Black Sabbath 'Born Again' 1983 Vertigo Records. Phonogram, London. Polygram, Aust. I loved this album on release. It's HEAVY with a unique sound. This one has a lot of Snap, Crackle and Pop, It's a well played Record. I have it on Cd as well which sounds damn fine too. If I didn't have the Cd I would have replaced the Vinyl by now, maybe one day. Black Sabbath 'Technical Ecstacy' 1976 Vertigo Records. Phonogram, Germany. Sounding good after a wash. Black Sabbath 'Never Say Die' 1978 Vertigo Records. Polygram, Aust. A great Album in great nic, I don't seem to play it too often. Black Sabbath 'Mob Rules' 1981 Vertigo Records. Phonogram Int. Holland. Polygram, Aust. This one is a replacement copy as it was also played a lot back in the day. Definitely my favourite Sabbath/Dio Album. My favourite Ozzy album is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. 1

BuzzzFuzzz Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Hey Bangers... Pelican 'City of Echoes' 2007 Hydra Head Records. Daymare Recordings. An instrumental band which I don't know too much about. I don't really understand the label reference of 'Post', as in Post Metal. I know what Progressive means, but not Post, if anyone can shed any light on this??? Anyway, I've looked this album up and it gets mixed reviews. I'm not familiar with any other work, and I really like playing this. I understand why some bands are criticised by their fans for a 'change in direction' (I've been there myself). It's easy to access such an album without knowing the earlier work. Mastodon 'Blood Mountain' 2006 Reprise Records. Warner Music, Aust. I don't think I need to explain anything here about these guys. I love this Album.
tubularbells Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Hey @BuzzzFuzzz agree with ya on the whole 'Post' movement that seems to be in favour recently in that its difficult to pin down the exact sound mainly due to the fact that unliike other genres there simply isnt one. I see it more as a branching out stylistically more than a specific sound. I'l check out Pelican 'City of Echoes' as it might be in the vein of a record i picked up a few years ago which is also a purely instrumental album by a band called Pg. Lost. pg.lost are a post-rock band from Sweden. The band formed started in Norrköüing in 2005 and have released 5 studio albums so far. The overwhelming crowd response to pg.lost‘s seminal performance at Dunk! Festival in Belgium in 2017 left no doubts that this band is on the course for true greatness. The show was recorded and is now being released as a collaborative effort between Pelagic Records, Dunk!Records, who have already released stunning “live at Dunk!” – albums of other genre-defining acts, such as RUSSIAN CIRCLES and PELICAN and A Thousand Arms. For Fans of: Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai and Cult of Luna. 1

I've never really gotten into City of Echoes, it just didn't do it for me. Should give it another chance I guess. Check out Australasia by them though. That is a *good* album. Drought being my personal fave song of theirs. Which I always seem to mention at the drop of a hat... But as you say, it's easy to get into an album if you haven't heard their earlier work. I always seem to find myself liking the first album I've heard from a band even if it's not their 'best' album if it was the first one I've heard. Not sure what that says about me, but whatever. Year Of No Light is another good (lyric-less, on the albums I've heard anyway) post-metal band too. Edited June 13, 2018 by Monk 1
blackangus Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 @BuzzzFuzzz@Tubularbells I thought post metal meant bands with short hair... 1 1
blackangus Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 How are y'all finding Coven's Will by Canberra's Witchskull? Ex Looking Glass/Armoured Angel. I haven't bought the record yet but it is on constant digital rotation (which could be a Frank Zappa song title but I digress)
tubularbells Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 @blackangus will have to give it a listen as I haven't heard of it ( hardly surprising given I'm so out of touch with the current Aussie metal scene) but thx for the heads up as I like Armoured Angel.
BuzzzFuzzz Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 Hey Guys, thanks once again to @Tubularbells for putting me onto these guys... Ghost 'Prequelle' 2018 Loma Vista Recordings.
