I thought I'd try the 907NRA through the ML2 Ltds with decoding by Clay's GroB DAC.

The top end, mids and vocals are the best I have heard yet.  Bass is incredibly tight and focused but could use a little more punch (which was unexpected).

As Christmas presents to myself go, it's the best I've given me so far.

GroB DAC

Do you mean groß as in the German word for large?

The ß is more like an 's' than a 'b', so I wouldn't substitute it for a b. :)

Yes, indeed I do.

Yes, I realize it is meant to represent a sharp s, but for the sake of using a word that is easily typed I've been using "GroB".

:D

I had to read it a couple of times before I realized what you meant.

You had me quite confused at first.

So it didn't quite make it here for Christmas like i had hoped but make it, it finally did. Sansui CD alpha717DR, 230 volt with remote in near mint condition. It really amazed me the difference in build compared to the CD X701i larger in size and weight and for me more beautiful with the wooden cheek plates. Looks nice sitting with the matching amp shame there is no quality turntable that could match up.

I reckon a Sansui SR-929 would more than a worthy candidate to fill that gap.

Negotiable :o

Being on gumtree you'd have to offer $12 and point out that it might be a bit to big to fit in your gear rack ...

Gee @BLAH BLAH, @Willmax and @Sansui77 its a tough crowd to work with this weekend.?I have been agonising which way to go with the SR 838. Leave it with the X901 or the CA BA 2000 combo. For me i just don't think it is quite the right bit of kit for the 901 or the alpa907. i think i like the CA BA combo just a little bit more.

The 838 seems to suit the BA/CA and x901 better in the looks department. The only other table that may go better with the alphas cheeks is the SR-717 but is an older table.

@Sansui77, on that i have to agree. Beautiful table but somewhat difficult to come by here in Oz at a reasonable price. I have had a couple of cracks on ones listed ob Ebay in the US but they go for big $$ especially when adding postage and our poor exchange rate.

Would love to see that SR-838 set up well, lovely table

I came across a pic of my old one, and the remorse was hard to bare.

Hint #3

So while this

2019-01-06-17-19-25-Logitech-Media-Serve

sounds lovely on this 1994 example of excellence

This unknown Sansui was made from 1971 to 1972, and I just wonder if Mr Cash might sound even better on her (once restored)
