catman Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 G'day all, although I admit to having some OCD tendencies, I wonder if I'm alone in having some quite defined 'little rituals' when using audio gear. For me I guess my main one involves keeping the volume/gain controls at specific locations although there is no 'logical' reason for doing this. I've always just done that, and it's hard if not impossible to break away from that 'rule', in a sense. Does anyone else do anything similar? Regards, Felix.
Janjuggler Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Hi Do you do it even if it makes the sound quality less ? JJ
catman Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 G'day mate, yes possibly, but generally not. It's just a 'constraint' for no logical reason. Regards, Felix.
emesbee Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I'm always varying the volume controls, to suit my mood and time of day. I always set volume levels to zero before switching on or off. 1
elcamry Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Yes I do the same as you @@emesbee , but there is a good reason for switching on or off , safety and survival of speakers .

L J T Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) Volume control has to be rounded up or down to 5. - eg Volume has to be -20db on the NAD, not 21, not 19. They have to be rounded numbers of 5db. I find I do this with TV too, volume can't be 34, it has to be rounded up to 35. Edited March 11, 2015 by L J T 2
Guest Misterioso Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Some habits: Monitors always last on, first off (prevents pops from the monitor after switching on the preamp; although is seems I don't get such pops in my system anyway). Press the record counter after switching on the turntable's motor but before cleaning the record with a carbon fibre brush (ensures the platter has gained momentum).
cyclingsteve Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Im the same as @LJT.....I have to have the volume on a rounded off number i.e. 55 or 60 not 53 or 59 etc. Also I never seem to go over 60 in volume ....my max volume !!! I almost feel like if I do go over 60 something is going to happen.
emesbee Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 My volume control doesn't have numbers. Its just a knob. 1
