These are very under rated speaker & a bargain to tannoy fans or someone who wants to get into horn speakers.Take advice from a sound enigineer who plays with a $150000 active speakers for over 5 years before then I used to use Tannoys and these are a very good example

These are not horn speakers....

They employee a Tannoy point source 200mm dual concentric driver and supplementary 200mm bass driver.

The high frequency driver is horn loaded.... Does this make the speaker a horn?!?!

Yes I was wondering about that too.

In any case they look to be a lovely speaker and if not for being in Sydney I would definitely be asking for an audition

Answer: I thought it's the rule to include this disclaimer as per the guide.

These speakers are genuine, nothing has been changed.

Anyone needs to be convinced of the beautiful sounc, just come and audit. I reckon these are better than ProAc Studio floor stander. They are early model of current Tannoy DC8T

No mate. Only if they have been modded or altered in some way by someone other than the manufacturer or a qualified technician :)

mate, this model Tannoy ain't a horn speaker. Only differentiating aspect is the dual concentric driver. it's not a horn classed speaker

I understood Tannoy to be a contraction of 'Tantalum Alloy' - the original construction metal.

Not horns, although the dual-concentric design means the tweet is buried down the throat of the main cone and therefore the hf source is set in a sorta defacto short horn / waveguide architecture. Variations are the tulip or pepper-pot.

Tannerds won't use anything else - very nice 'all-rounders'.

It's really buyers market now, such quality at such price with no offer yet. I remember it went for $2,500 around 7 years ago.

I will let it run for another week then put on ebay.

Of course they are not horn speakers. You are absolutely correct. There are many people though who think that dual concentric speaker arrays equate to horn speakers. This is 100% wrong.

Gentlemen, how would 2 pair go as front and rears in a 5.1 set up. Could be a cost effective way for me to set up a decent HT system.

Any reasonable offer will be considered. Come on, someone saves me from re advertising or putting it up on ebay.
