It seems that audiophiles get a lot of bad press for various reasons. However if it wasn't for a fellow audiophile id be having a very quiet few weeks. I posted in the speaker forum about blowing up one of my Usher BE-718's because of a faulty phono stage. The speaker is in at CAV awaiting a new mid/bass driver and it will be there for a few weeks probably. A guy i work with is a fellow audiophile, he has a nice collection of gear, a lot of nice vintage stuff, his main speakers are new however, a pair of Magnepan MMG's. We've listened to each others systems a few times, i really enjoy his MMG's, hearing them on his various amplifiers etc. He as a very wide ranging taste in music too and i always seem to hear something new to me that i have to go and investigate.

I shared my tale of woe about the speakers and, without prompting, he offered to loan me a pair of speakers for the duration. So true to his word the next day he brought in a nice vintage pair of Proac Studio 1's. They have taken up residence on my speaker stands and they are pretty good little speakers. So thanks to my workmate for the loan, i'm enjoying the speakers alot

Cheers

"do to others as you would have them do to you" Tony Abbott

I'm sure you had one eye closed as you typed that but, just to set the record straight - so impressionable readers don't get the wrong impression - a bloke about 2,000 years ago actually said that first. ;)  Except he said it in Aramaic so what he actually said might be a bit different from the various translations that have come down to us (one of which, Tony was quoting).

^ so does that mean we should screw Tony over or...?

As I am sure there are rules about political discussions outside of the proper threads... It depends on your pre tax income and sexual persuasion

Yes, the limits of generosity know no bounds with fellow audio loving bro's - just a word of warning, lengthy loans can end up expensive when you can't bear to give it back & they get used to being without it!  ;)

I hate to be pedantic but...

What am I saying? I love to be pedantic!

Pretty sure that there is an undisclosed FBT liability involved in this transaction. Tony will want his share ; )

What Tones don't know won't hurt us. Promise!

What Tony was actually trying to quote (or, more likely, what he meant) was the other golden rule: those with the gold make the rules...

Enough TA. Back to the good news story please.

Here's an opportunity to feel good and help someone in the community. ( see below ) This thread has made me decide to give a little. Ok, its not a life or death thing, but its a guy i follow from time to time for his vinyl music buys and his music which he puts out on vinyl. If you follow his posts its plain he is living on a shoestring budget.

Last night I got a message from Nada (here on SNA) and right out of the blue offered to lend me his Melody valve preamp.

Never spoken with him before and I've never solicted any loans from anyone.

Maybe he'd seen my recent Whise speaker journey here and thought he'd make the offer to help out.

What a top bloke!
