I recently bought a second hand Marantz ud5007 and the remote was working perfectly , but it stopped. (partially)

The batteries are good.

Done the camera test and it emits light.

Only some button work like power, eject. but most buttons do not.

If i push some button multiple times, it sometime works but mostly not.

If it doesn't work at all it would make sense, but some buttons still work

I can also still operate the integrated amp with the same remote.

I almost send my other Marantz ud5005 to another member of the stereonet family today , but due to a temporary shipping delay i was able to use the remote from this unit.

And this remote works flawlessly, so i can rule out the unit being an issue.

I still done a reset and firmware update, but no change.

I tried resetting the remote, if possible at all, but no luck either.

I opened up the remote but could not detect any issues.

I have no idea why the remote is only partially working.....

Does the remote double up as a controller for another device? I.e. Can it be used as a remote for a Marantz AV receiver or the like?

Often if a remote is set for one device, it limits its control of the other.

Often if a remote is set for one device, it limits its control of the other.

It does double up, but it has been working flawlessly before.

I also tried the remote for an older model , and that one still works flawlessly.

So there is no interference between devices.

I also tried the remote of the 5007 for the 5005 and the same thing happens.

The unit responds to 5 buttons, but does not react to the other buttons at all.

So for some reason the remote does not communicate with the unit.

To make it even weirder, on the odd occasion the buttons that don't work , do work.

how confident are you of pulling it apart and checking for dry solder joints or cleaning the circuit board ?

http://www.instructables.com/id/Repair-your-remote-controls/?ALLSTEPS

the membrane looks like one long strip, it could be out of alignment with the board underneath it

might pay to just get a quote from a TV repair technician, im sure they wont charge more than its worth

or

I have already taken it apart, but could not detect anything wrong.

But i must admit i have no idea what to look for.

The remote is clean on the inside, no gunk or anything.

So my gut tells me it's a 'technical issue'.

So either repair or replacement is needed.

I contacted qualify via email, hoping they would provide good customer service by offering me a free replacement.

So i got a reply from Marantz, im allowed to order a replacement for $70 + $20 postage, isn't that nice...?

In my humble opinion it's reasonable to assume that a remote should last longer then a couple of years, and a replacement should be covered by warranty.

Or am I asking too much here ...?

Just buy a generic replacement remote, or better, a universal remote like a Logitech Harmony, Philips or OneForAll.

Remotes are a tricky thing, unlike components they are seemingly exposed to higher likeliness of physical damage, such as being dropped (even if not visible).

I can t blame Qualifi for not replacing it at no cost, given the points I mentioned above and the fact it was bought used.

I already own a logitech harmony 300,

And we are using it for the tv. (lost original remote)

So i added the dvd player and amp.

So i can control the player with the harmony, so this will do for now

But i still prefer the original remote.

So much nicer to use.

I was gonna say take it apart too.

One of my remotes gets a bit of moisture under the rubber pad from time to time.

Mostly at the "volume down" button for some reason, and it doesn't make contact.

It's really insignificant when you look at it, and there's no "gunk", but it stops it from working, while all the other buttons work fine.

All I have to do is pull it apart, wipe the board and the rubber bit and it works again.

:)

I done that and saw nothing wrong with it.

No moisture, no gunk.

Looks nice and clean on the inside.

I might take it apart again and take a picture.

hang on a minute, i just had a thought, the UD5007 comes with a 3 year warranty, and no way has it been on the market for 3 years

you bought it second hand, are you still in contact with the original owner ?

edit: you should also have 3 months statute on second hand goods as well

(obviously explored those options)

and there is one more thing ... if you purchased with a Mastercard or Visa you have a certain purchase protection period, anything is covered, theft, accidental damage etc

i was able to (successfully) claim for a smashed android tablet the night i purchased it and dropped it and smashed the screen

Bought it with cash, my mistake.

Owner is not replying to my text, might give him a call later.

The unit is not that old, that's what is annoying me the most.

Remote is not old, not abused nor damaged.

In my opinion it should still work.

time to revive this :)

I have noticed the other day that the red light on the unit has become orange/yellow

It is the light above the power button.

It appears to have no influence on the functionality of the player, everything works.

But while the light has turned orange/ yellow, i decided to try the remote again, and now im stunned.

The remote is fully working....

Is there a possibility that the problem lies with the unit and not the remote?

Should i be concerned the colour of the light has changed from red to yellow/orange?

That didn't last long.

Remote not working anymore...

Dvd player is showing some signs of nqr.

When turning the unit of, it restarts.

It doesn't go to sleep anymore.

And the weirdest of all, i went to netflix, got the screen up, yet i get sound from the dvd that is apparently playing....

Mayby is haunted

My 8801 remote after 1 month had an epic fail, half the buttons didn't work half the time.

I think that there's a major issue with certain marantz remotes, and a new one has been on back order for two months now.

2 months is a long time.

I know, I've got a replacement borrowed from Miranda hi-fi, and it just barely works on my pre/pro.

Can't wait enough till the proper one comes in.

Why does it only 'barely work'.

Is it the same model remote?

I'm currently using an universal remote, not ideal but it's more reliable then the Marantz one.

Ahh sorry, no, completely different remote, so it just does the basic functions, not that well either.
