Darren69 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hurro,Any owners with tales to tell?Am being seduced by the simplicity of an integrated since ownership of my two Peachtrees. 2
betty boop Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 can understand the attraction of the simplicity of the M6500i was what encouraged me to upgrade my power amp to the similar rated m8500 power amp @@Lil Caesar pretty sure he has one ps updated the title 2
Darren69 Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) Ah, yes, thanks, couldn't remember if there was an M or not there. How have you found the M8500 Al? Can you pop it in the post for me to try at home for six months or so?? Edited April 17, 2015 by Darren69
wanta911 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Yep, I am a very happy owner. I can't give you any real comparison though, as my only dedicated 2 channel amps have been this and the MF M6i 200wpc models. It does what it says on the can and drives my B&W 803 Diamonds without raising a sweat and with headroom to spare that you could fly a jumbo jet through Comparing to other people's setups I have heard is not really relevant as there are other differing components involved. The only thing close to a real world indication I had is that the guy who sold me the B&Ws was also trying to sell me a McIntosh amp, but he gave up when he heard my MF paired with them. 1
Darren69 Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Myeah, am not a fan of the Macs, whenever I have heard them I have found them a bit tinny.
jaba010 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Go for it, the focals with love you for it. No substitute for cubic capacity! 2
wanta911 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Myeah, am not a fan of the Macs, whenever I have heard them I have found them a bit tinny. I've actually only heard one setup with a Mac and it sounded sweet, but like everything else it depends on component matching and the room as well. In my particular case I think it was more that the Mac wouldn't be an improvement, rather than it would be worse. 1
betty boop Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 ~ How have you found the M8500 Al? ~ love it ...very much along the lines of Wanta's post. doesn't break a sweat …effortless… drives the speakers beautifully. smooth and delicate and yet attacking and with dynamics clean and controlled low volumes or high. its a lovely amp ~ Can you pop it in the post for me to try at home for six months or so?? haha I would miss it too much…and not sure I'd want to break the poor lady's back in the PO if I pop in the post 1
Darren69 Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 How do they do crappy compressed rock? Big BASS???
Lil Caesar Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) The m6500i is as close to a perfect mirror of the recorded sound as you are likely to find in an integrated amplifier. it adds nor takes anything - simply provides gain and monstrous quantities of it when the user demands it. Bass - if its in the recording, you'll hear it. Be wary - 100+amps at peak means 4 ohm loads are laughable to this arc welder. The distortion is so low that one keeps turning up the volume and if your transducers are not up to the task they will crumble. My m6500i drives dynaudio focus 380's after the signal is received from a meitner ma-1 dac and the weakest link in my system is the room. I doubt greater investment would yield any real improvement apart from greater bass depth afforded by speakers of obscene dimensions which I am unlikely to ever obtain or realistically house. Darren69 Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 @@Lil Caesar your thoughts are very much appreciated.
rantan Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 The MF has a sonic signature very similar to your Parasound amps. Not sure if that is what you want, or if you are seeking a different style of presentation but I would see it as a side grade. 2
Jventer Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) @@Darren69 May I suggest you remain patient for your Parasound amps. I know what you are going through - the itch, the wonder, the doubt - maybe the MF will be good - but if you just wait a l while your amps will be fixed one or other time and then you will not look back. Remember: All's well that ends well!! Edited April 19, 2015 by Jventer 1
Darren69 Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Really @@rantan ? Very interesting. Side grades= meh, not at this stage in life. Same as anything I guess, it would take a listen and then a decision. @@Jventer , wise advice as always. Am just over waiting but Zaph is being uber-thorough which, deep down, is appreciated. God give me patience. Right bloody now.
Addicted to music Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Should have bought the Magtechs mate! I'm seriously considering it, Looking back at the classified, knowing what I know now, and didn't have the dosh then and still don't but I'm kicking myself and berating my brains out because I missed the opportunity you gave.....damn, whoever pick them up is now living in hi fi heaven....
Darren69 Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 I offered an amount for them that was to low for bzr initially, and by the time he came to the party, I had spent the funds elsewhere. Impatient!!!!!! They would have been moi's.

bzr Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 20.7's actually, but sometimes you just have to change because you can. 1

Edited April 20, 2015 by Addicted to music
bzr Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I replaced the 20.7's with Wilson Benesch Trinity & 2 Torus Infrasonic Generators, which I still have & love the sound. The Generators are very special & will play effortlessly with any speaker. The amps were replaced with a PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP Integrated run in bypass mode using my Soulution preamp & KT150 tubes, sold the PL for a Line Magnetic 219ia integrated & am just about to go to a Vitus amp. That was the last twelve months. 1
Darren69 Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Would kill to hear some Torus, let alone have the $$ to own a pair. Glad you are having big fun mate.
bzr Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Darren, they make a difference to any system for the better, I couldn't live with bookshelves on their own.
Hdblu4k Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Am thinking about getting the M6500i, I had a M6 and I sold it and really regret it now:(, so am thinking of just going for a bigger upgrade now, as I don't want to buy another M6 or even the M6si.
