bard61 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I have a Marantz KI66 solid state integrated amp that I've been hanging on to since a friend kindly gave me an Audio Innovations 500 integrated tube amp. The AI500 is wonderful, but it lacks a headphone output so I'm wondering if there's a way to hook up the Marantz to the AI500 to use solely as a headphone amp? The headphone stage on the Marantz was pretty well regarded in its day. All thoughts/ridicule happily received. Thanks, Brad.
Equaliser Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Nope. No chance unless you build yourself a headphone dummy loud to hook up to speakers taps for your AI 500 tube amp.

pp312 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Can't he buy one? I had one at one stage, had no use for it so sold it.
oldrose Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 You can do this if the AI has tape out "inputs" and the KI has a spare Line input. 1
aechmea Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Wouldn't you just need a 'tape out' on the main AI amp and connect that to any 'line in' on the Marantz. Turn the volume on the AI to zero, which will mute the main speakers and which wouldn't affect the 'tape out' signal, then choose the required volume on the Marantz to drive the phones. Seems easy to me. [sorry didn't see oldrose's response.] Edited April 19, 2015 by aechmea

The Marantz isn't being used for anything else, so a spare line in is no problem.
LogicprObe Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Won't be a problem............line out to line in and away you go!

Are we talking about the Ki PM-66 with this Marantz? Just go enjoy it.
