ArtCor Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Hi everyone,I'm trying to build my own home audio system and I found it quite difficult. I have got a pair of speakers and turntable Rega RP1. The speakers are Swan Diva 6.2, which as it's said on its label 6 Ohms and 10-200Watts. So, to run it I need to complete all set by buying an amplifier and here I am a bit confused. As I understood and please correct me if I am wrong, the best way to match speakers with an amplifier to avoid burning amplifier I should double power of my speakers, so if they are 200Watts my future amplifier should be about 400Watts or more. If this correct, should I deffinetly get power amplifier or it is still acceptable to buy just integrated amplifier with less output power? As I understood there are 2 basic options. The first one is to build my system in the next way: turntable>integrated amplifier with phono>speakers. The second way is turntable>phono preamplifier>power amplifier>speakers. Also, I would like to find out if an power amplifier affect sound quality or not?If anybody could help me I would be very thankful.Cheers
joey2511 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Also, I would like to find out if an power amplifier affect sound quality or not? Hi Artcor, putting a power amplifier into my system was the biggest sound upgrade I have had, ever. Joey
howze Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Nope definitely dont need to double the power rateing at all mate, whats the sensitivity of those speakers you have? Im currently useing an intergrated amp that does around 70watts @6ohm into speakers that will take 200watts and it will quite easily get to uncomfortable levels. Have you got a budget in mind and have you got a problem with second hand gear at all. Generally going seperates (pre amplifier and power amplifier) will cost allot more in the setup, there are some incredibly good 2ch intergrated amps out there and allot of them have the function of being able to run as a power amp so if in the future you buy a dedicated pre amp you can still use it
LogicprObe Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Well..........here's your speakers. http://www.swanspeaker.com/product/htm/view.asp?id=249 Says it has a sensitivity of 90db Swans Diva 6.2F Series : Home Theater System Model : Swans Diva 6.2F System Type : 3-way 4th order vented box system Drivers Configuration Woofer : YT8N×2 Midrange : YT5N Tweeter : TN28 Frequency Range : 33Hz ~ 20kHz Harmonic Distortion : 47Hz ~ 20kHz =1%(2.83V/1m) Sensitivity(2.83V/m) : 90dB Nominal Impedance : 6Ω Power Handling : 10 ~ 200W Finish : Rosen wood/ high gloss piano lacquer Dimensions (W×D×H mm) : 313×410×1248 Net Weight : 35kg That means they'll go pretty loud on any amp over 50 watts a channel. I'd go for an integrated myself..............but I'm biased toward vintage jobs of the 70s and 80s. How much are you looking to spend?
ArtCor Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 Thanks for all your replies. I stopped on Marantz PM6005 or Rotel 12, but if I don't find second hand I'll go with older models. Maybe you recommend some? I spoke yesterday with one friend of mine and he said the same what you explained. So, I'll get an integrated amplifier for the beginning and later I'll definitely buy a power amplifier.
howze Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Depending on your budget theres actually a 2x200 watt intergrated in the for sale section
ArtCor Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) I am looking for an amp no more than $800. This is my first system and I want to start with this budget. I stopped on those two amplifiers. I have heared Marantz's sound, but I have not Rotel's one. So, could anybody tell me about the second one? Edited April 24, 2015 by ArtCor
