Hi there,

I have just bought TT Rega RP1, which has been used already. So, finally I have got amplifier to connect everything and check the turntable. When I turned it on its sound is slow and not stable, when I changed its speed via belt it's also slow and not stable. Could anyone tell me what it would be?

Best regards,

Artemi

It could be on of several faults. You will probably need to take it to a tech. Faults include:

* Loose pulley.

* Faulty motor.

* Faulty motor capacitor or resistor.

* Faulty motor mounts.

Add to that a slipping belt

You can clean the belt and pulleys with alcohol and try again

A stroboscope would be useful to verify that the Rega  is running below the correct speed.If it verified  that it is faulty, then as has been suggested,a refund should be requested. Hopefully this T.T. has not been purchased  from.overseas.The best  cleaning fluid for rubber components is Shellite.

How would it be possible to check?

I have its number on the back, so could I use it to find out some how?

It has australian power plug, so probably it was purchased there.

I have done as I was advised to clean belt and pulley. Now I would say it is better, it is more stable but not perfect and still a bit slow.

The TT may not have been used for some time and many of the critical moving parts may just need a long run in to warm up and thin out any lube oil /grease that may have hardened

Try leaving the TT run on for an hour or so

Thanks for all of you guys.

I have run and then I'll see. So, the last time when I tried it was quite interesting. When I leave its tonearm close to the beginning of a vinyl records it starts sounding in good speed. but then slightly it's getting slow till some point and when I put the tonearm on the end of the last track it sounds almost perfectly.

It's a really common problem with a Rega turntable. The plastic pulley on the top of the motor starts to slip on the metal spindle so as there is more drag the record slows down. Dead easy fix. Gently pull the small 33/45 rpm plastic pulley off the spindle, place a tiny amount of superglue in the hole in the middle of the pulley, gently replace the pulley making sure you push it all the way home as far as it will go (firmly but gently) then wait a short while and you should be good to go.

Both my Planar 2 and P25 I had back in the day had this issue and i've read countless posts on the net over the years with the exact same symptoms.

So, I have done it and in an hour and ahalf I still had the same situation. Close to the end of the last track on a vinyl it sounds perfectly, but on the first tracks it slows down. I have ordered already white belt, so likely it will be delivered tomorrow and then I'll check, if it's the same I'll glue the pulley.
