I have been following this thread Sean

Now that you have a cash settlement, an idea came to me and thought to pass it on

Can you purchase from the manufactures only one cabinet without speakers and ship it over

When it arrives you can swap over the hardware to the new cabinet

The old cabinet can be used as a stand or as a base for a glass top coffee table

Nope.

The only company that I know that might allow it if you pay a crap load for just a single cab is Thiel. And you have to be a US citizen (living there with a US address) to get this sort of option from there HQ.

I can just about live with the damage....it's taken some time to recover, but I can't see it from where I'm sitting or when I enter the room.  It's been good therapy for my OCD  ;)

Thanks for the suggestion; however, I'm pretty sure that SF would charge a fortune.  Also, it's not a current model so they might not even have a spare cabinet.

Thumbs up on the OCD therapy, fully understand that one.

And a spair cabinet would prolly cost as much if not more than a new speaker, especially if it's a run out model.

I can appreciate how you feel, having had similar happen (although it was my fault!).

I would suggest that, rather than a cabinet maker, you investigate furniture restoration specialists in Brisbane. For example, this came up via Google (http://renownedfurniture.com.au/services/furniture-restoration-brisbane/) and I'm sure there are others. They will know how to match lacquers and varnishes, and also to what extent the dents can be minimised if not removed; careful appplication of heat can sometime expand the brusied wood back to some degree. The one I used here in Auckland did a fantastic job for me, so much so that I insisted on paying him more than he charged!

Finding out as much as you can about the wood, the stains, and the lacquer/varnish used will also help the craftsman who repairs it for you. Best of luck ...

...but I still think you might be surprised what a good restorer might be able to do!

Great result mate been following from the start. I suffer from OCD really bad at times (all times lol) and it often eats my mind up. I often have to try and justify myself if there is something with a mark/scratch. If you got money back then I would just think of them sorta like an incredibly good factory second deal. Considering you got a fair compensation it worked out brilliant. You'll forget about the mark eventually (and if u do spot it, think about those heavy pockets now lol)

I'd still try contacting SF just to see what might be possible - it's rare but good customer service does still exist - no loss to you in sending them an email with a pic of the damaged cabinet and asking what might be possible

I do - it was only a couple of superficial dents to one side of one speaker. I swapped the speakers around, so I can't see the damage when facing the speakers. You can just see from the left it in the photo above.

Hi Sean , Apologies in advance , we have been sampling vodka all afternoon.

Now , a REGA turntable is going to sound like poo , sitting on such a cabinet, between such bass capable speakers. A wall shelf would be better than the current situation even if you don't have solid walls.

Just one last 'nitpick' I think the SF'S deserve something more adept than the Primare stuff you are after , imho, not necessarily more expensive just less boring :)

All good! But there's no use saying that unless you can come up with suggestions! How about one of those Luxman integrateds with the big VU meters? Worthy enough?!

or a McIntosh integrated? or Accuphase?  I love big VU meters, but was disappointed to learn that the Macs have plastic knobs!

I have found rotel and sonus to be a very putting you to sleep combination. and I think that perhaps along those lines what gordon ozcal is suggestion is you might want something else to shove some power up its binding posts ?

try KRELL ! :) am not kidding here. theres a really cheap 2ch pre going here. just add one of their power amps.

and only do try. it might turn out not to your taste ? with any of these suggestions. do you have any sonus dealers what do they suggest and sell ...maybe worth exploring their suggestions ?

the other surprising combination I heard very recently was one of the upper end sonus stand mounts of cyrus cd and integrated. what a beautiful match ! I have no doubt its the insightful nature of cyrus combining with the sonus character that worked so well :)

theres probably other combinations to check out.

parasound ? musical fidelity ? these are all more on the spritely side of things.
