OK, got the Mueller, but I was going to bring some pain meds till I read that they are strictly forbidden and any narcotics have to be registered and approved in advance through some ministry. Last thing I need is to get busted bringing narcotics to Japan & barred for life. How did you get around that?
Stump Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 I carry heavy duty anti-inflammatory and Ibuprofen I get with a doctors script.I just carry enough needed for the trip.I'm sure they are not illegal where opiate based drugs may be a different matter.I can not advise which way to go but if I myself needed them I would take them and declare on the customs card ...... Happy Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Hey @Stump how did you transport the records back to Australia?
Stump Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 In this trip post there was post office EMS 50 LPs then Airline luggage 60 LPs and 12 special LP with carry on. 1
Piko Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Always cheaper to take anything back with you on the plane as opposed to postage. It will cost a lot less. Lets say, a decent sized box may cost you $100 in the post. My only fear with excess luggage on a flight is how the box is handled. I try to carry on where I can, or pack well secured in a hard shell trunk.
Happy Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Hmmmmm something to think about. Wouldn’t sea mail be pretty cheap?
Piko Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 (edited) Just calculated at http://www.post.japanpost.jp/cgi-charge/index.php?lang=_en for 20kg parcel from Hiroshima prefecture to QLD. EMS(Express Mail Service) Regarding EMS Traceable 25,500yen 5days Details Airmail International parcel 27,150 yen 7 days Economy Airmail(SAL) International parcel 19,550 yen About 2 weeks Surface Mail International parcel 10,250 yen 2 to 3 months Edited October 26, 2017 by Piko 1
Piko Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Haha i'll stick to booking excess baggage on return flights! I get them immediately and for 1/3 of the price. Last minute excess baggage at the airport probably equates to the cost of Surface Mail.

mightyvinyl Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 I decided I’ll go with excess baggage this time instead of shipping home as in previous years. I even bought a few “flight case” type boxes like this at Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DUZ1XWA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I will either fill a couple and strap them together with duct tape, or fill them and put them in my luggage and put excess into boxes with lots of padding. 1

The one shown appears to be big enough for singles only.
