Keith_W Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I hope you used plenty of this otherwise that gorilla would never have stayed still for you
Soultone Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Alright it is time to get serious for a while. As some of you might know I have been looking for "that sound" that has been in my head for some time now, I almost had it with my PMC's I was working on them right up until the day I sold and I almost didn't, but I am glad they have gone home and I very happy to say that I found the sound that I was searching for in a word these speakers are bewildering! Now for some jargon, no speaker is perfect but damn these go very close. Not all that well known around our shores but well respected in North America and Europe, Totem Acoustics are wonderful company that really puts some great "value" in high end mini monitors. I wont go too much into the specs or build of the speakers they can be found on the Totem website. I will mention that I have never come across such a beautiful well made speaker before outstanding. Three things make up these babies a SEAS tweeter that spot on the money, not harsh or bright nor smooth and boring. 5.5" Dynaudio made for Totem driver. The cabinet is solid and three layers inside and they way a ton. I am simply in awe of these speaker and I have a great combo running them, the Krell KAV 300i that I got from Dave aka Chicken monster, my Cambridge CD player, AudioQuest speaker cables and a Better Cables I/C, you really need to hear it to believe it, I will be having a gtg for those that are interested. Now time for some pics, I have also updated my racks and stands, the speaker stands that are currently in use will be done shortly and replaced with some four poster target stands I will update the pics when they get here. Krell - Cambridge and rack Whole system Totem Model One Signature Sorry for the bad pics, using a compact with bad lighting. But still enjoy. More details on the gtg soon.

joz Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Ooooohhhh very nice:)Where did the lap dancer go? NFA What you missed the pic of the gorilla??
Drizt Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Looks great mate, hope they bring you much joy for many years to come.
Soultone Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Yep, very happy chappy right now. Words really do not do justice to these speakers. The only thing I want to try out is the new speaker stands that are on the way and an MF X10-D for a bit of valve in between the CD and the AMP then it should be the best of both worlds.
Grizzly Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Bloody nice units Andrew- congrats to you. Were you without music for any serious time?
Marine Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 If you have GTG and I can make it, I will be happy to bring my MF X-10 v3 and X-PSU, for you to try out. Not selling though, sorry.
Soultone Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 I was listening to an LG micro system for a week, do that if you are having thoughts about how bad your system is, it's a sure cure. Good stuff Marine that would be great!
Chickenism Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hi AiA, Congrats on the Totems...great looking speaker. Your excitement at the sound shows in your posts...well done. Being a 4ohm nominal, and probably reasonably inefficient (I'm guessing) speaker, the Krell is possibly the ideal amp for them...as long as you're reasonably careful with the volume control. Put me down for the GTG... Cheers, Dave
djb Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 u were searching 4 a sound that was bewildering !!! each 2 their own david
Soultone Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Yep, the Krell does a great job as you would expect. I would love to run some valves through these but I don't think they would do it justice other than something like the Cayin hybrid or a McIntosh. Totem said that there are a brand called VAC that are meant to be really good that I might look into further down the track also. But for its just a valve pre/buffer on the cards and then a new TT next year after the wedding and there are a few to look at. I had a listen to some sonos fabers last week which were $20k a pair with $15k of back end and my rig is very comes very close that minus that little valvy sound that the amp had. Over all, I am stunned.
Soultone Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 u were searching 4 a sound that was bewildering !!!each 2 their own david I was not searching for a bewildering sound I was searching for a sound, I was bewildered that I found it.
