Item: GARRARD 401 IN SOLID WALNUT PLINTH WITH SCHICK 12" ARM AND ORTOFON SPU GE

Location: PERTH
Price: 3900
Item Condition: PERFECT
Reason for selling: NOT SURE, AS GOOD AS MY SHINDO BUT I CAN ONLY KEEP ONE
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
Extra Info: I could have just sold the ingredients separately and would have got more for it but I thought that was a bit poor and I wanted to build a really good TT.

With the help of a furniture making friend we built the plinth from solid walnut. the motor board is made from marine plywood covered with high quality furniture nero linoleum. Not only looking good but easy to clean and a good vibration control.

The feet are excellent  hight adjustable Delrin feet from plinth design in the UK. The motor board sits on Squash balls like Loricraft or Vinylista.

The arm is a Thomas Schick 12" with cable. I love this arm for the sound and simplicity.

The cartridge is a very lightly used Ortofon SPU GE  (certainly less than a 100 hrs, not run in )

The Garrard looks different than the usual. Its not shitty brown but more like Dove colored. I don't know whether thats original or someone had some thoughts about aesthetics as well. It came with blank aluminium control plates covered with some plastic and I got some nice acrylic control plates made instead. Looks fab.

It runs absolutely quiet with no rumble at all. I am quite proud of that.

Soundwise I think it is just as good as my Shindo 301. Sellers crap you could say but just come and listen. The Shindo has a bit more authority in bass maybe but I got the impression that the 401 might be a bit more accurate.

The girl prefers the 401 for the looks and I am undecided but who would give me the money back for the Shindo?

If you need a Step up transformer for the SPU you can have a simple but suitable one for free. Please no offers like  "I make you good price" . The Schick arm and the SPU would cost you already the asking price and you would have to wait 4 months for delivery of the arm.

Audition with Stax headphones (speakers sold for moving) and pick up welcome in moving chaos, postage not so much.

Didn't realise it was a 401. My mistake.

301 Garrards in original condition go for in excess of 3 grand. 401 restored to better than original condition could pip the 301 at the post by a long shot on the international hifi market. Have you considered listing internationally?

My 401 has just slunked off to a corner in a state of envy..... I agree with the above, this is the best looking 401 I've laid eyes on!

I am not sure. I have a 301 i want to sell (in pristine unrestored original cond), but cautious about selling international using paypal because of the returns system. I heard/read a few horros stories of people sending nice stuff, getting a complaint and the item being returned incomplete/damaged.

Is there another way?

Mate black walnut is easily one of the nicest looking timbers out there. The veneers generally is nowhere near as beautiful as the solid walnut as evident in this sample.

I spoke to a guy when I was buying something on ebay. His friend sold a $7000 rolex and they lodged a claim with paypal, he got a fake rolex back. I would be very careful about sending overseas with credit cards or paypal. On the flip side paying with paypal is your friend.

Don't know why I click on this as I never really like the Garrads I'd seen before but this is stunning, that plinth timber is beautiful GLWTS, if I had enough money I'd just drive to pick it up.
