You mean filter cap for the 6SN7. It was originally posted on headfi years ago and anything between 100uf - 330uf and at least 10-25v will do. Any standard electrolytic is fine, you can use axial, normal stand off type or bipolars.

What are the different type of tubes I can roll for the back and front?

What's the best combo?

Thanks

For the back power tube you can use the 6AS7G, 6080, 5998 variants.

The front driver tube use 6SN7 or you can use 7N7 with adapters.

I'm currently using these:-

RCA JAN 6AS7G power tube

Sylvania 6SN7GTB NOS Chrome top driver tube

Sounds really good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I really liked the RCA Jan 6AS7G - its warm and spacious, and a joy to listen to. A real bargain - you can stock up on these tubes and have a lifetime supply.

As above theTS 5998 is definately more detailed, but I found it less enjoyable to listen to with my cans. I love the GE 5998A which is expensive but less costly than the 5998A/ WE421 or GEC tubes...indeed I am listening to the GE 5998A now in my integrated amp in my regular system. Love that tube!

For front input stage tube you can roll a ton of equivalents with the appropriate adaptor: 6F8G, 6DJ8, 12A/B*7, 7N7, dual 6J5, dual 7193, 6H8C, 6BL7 etc etc.

The common drop in equivalents are 5998, 6SN7GTA/B, VT231, WE421 and 6H8C's.

That's the tube singing  :D Welcome to the world of hums lol.

I had no hums from the Darkvoice that I bought with the extra tubes given by the previous owner. My recent addition of the near new pair of Sylvania 6SN7GTB Chrome top hums sometimes. When it doesn't hum it sounds so sweet. Maybe it needs to settle in. Try it with different power tubes. Is this a new tube?

I've had a few 6SN7's hum before the filter cap was installed. After it was installed no hum.

Any links for them where I can buy them? Thanks

Hi Dmax

I think DefQon has previously given the answer to this (below). Google mods to the Darkvoice and you should find more details

That said, you should probably only attempt this if you have some electronics experience (ie can use a soldering iron, understand safety working with valve gear etc).

Thanks, forget it then. I am useless with electronic stuff. I thought it was an adapter that simply goes between the tube and the amp. LOL

cheers

Not all tubes hum. New ones might need burn in initially. From my purchase recently, only a pair of new Sylvania 6SN7GTB Chrome top hum. I'll save these for a new tube amp that I'm getting.

Another Sylvania Gold brand 6SN7WGT used but in good condition is perfect and silent without hum. My old Motorola 6SN7GTB and RCA 6SN7GTB doesn't hum. Non of the power tubes induce hum. Seems like only the driver tubes (some of them) hum.

I've been happy so far with my un mod Darkvoice on tube rolling. Very happy indeed.

Absolutely not. This is just an entry tube amp but I like the warm and lushness. I have no other tube amps for comparison but I have to say I like the bass now with the hd650. Some tubes have good bass and warm. You have to read the 6SN7 reference guide.

Try the Ken Rad 6SN7GT Vt231 but it's expensive. I'm getting another tube amp which is supposedly much better. Well when I get it I'll be able to compare :)

You need some Crack mate.

This is what my DV 336SE looked like 2 years ago without the filter caps installed.

Probably LOL

I did think about it but I don't think I can solder and I don't like the look. Was thinking about La Figaro 339 but decided to take my chance with new comer Elise from Feliks Audio.

PM you.

Ok you're not PM'able :)

What tubes are you looking for? Power or driver tubes? Or what tubes do you currently have? :)

I just bought a pair of Mullard CV2984 / 6080 and I'm still smiling like a buffoon.
