eltech Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) Item: Philips 9434 DRC mkII speakers Location: Croydon Victoria Price: $90 but negotiable / make me an offer. Surely worth it for the ribbon tweeters alone. Item Condition: Used. One midrange driver has a de-laminated voice coil which means that there is a buzzing noise that comes from the midrange driver at certain frequencies. All other drivers working. Cabinets have a few scuff marks, and corner chips on the rear of the cabinet. Not really noticeable unless looking for it. Considering these speakers are from around 1983 they are in physically 7/10 condition. Reason for selling: I have a few pairs of speakers and since the midrange driver is damaged I would rather this go to someone who wants to fix it up and use it. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Can freight interstate with courier if required - bank deposit. Extra Info: Awesome 1980's design. Super cool. The plane disc drivers were actually engineered to work like a piston to avoid cone breakup issues ( they were not just made this way to look cool there was engineering behind the design) The speakers use the Isophonic ribon tweeters which sound great. The speakers are balanced sounding and definitely a quality speaker with very large magnets on the drivers. The cabinets are thick and heavy. The speaker uses a passive radiator and gives a good sound which is somewhere between sealed / ported and at some frequencies sound like a transmission line - an interesting design. The bass extension is very good for a smallish speaker. Seems to be quite rare in Australia, and more common in Europe. The mid drivers are very detailed. The midrange drivers come up on ebay from time to time so its not too hard to get a replacement. There is a pair on ebay right now http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-PAIR-PHILIPS-AD-02170-SQ8-5-MIDRANGE-DRIVERS-8OHMS-LOOK-/121518968161 size 74H x 27W x 27cm deep (29.5 with covers on) Pictures: as below Edited August 8, 2015 by eltech 1
