Nada Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Brisbane The council split "Water and Sewerage" off from the rates. Typical Rates for a house 2000 plus water 900 = 2900 Next they will privatise the rubbish collection and that will be another extra expense.
progladyte Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 As Nada said, the S/C council have done the same here. Council rates = about $873 every 6 months but I get an old farts discount of about $200 Water rates = about $400 to $600 every 6 months depending upon whether I have a shower or not that month.
Lloyd Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 (edited) I feel everybody's pain here.I don't particularly enjoy sharing personal circumstances, but my folks live rural - just landline and electricity.Remote. They are being thumped with a substantial amount of dosh for a modest 3 bedroom home on a one hectare block with a chook shed and wood shed. Edit - to clarify, no council services like waste disposal etc.My 89 year aged Dad has served the community as CFA chief in a volunteer capacity for maybe 50 years.I have a single parking fine from a Woolworth's car park. It is now about 700 - about 8 years ago. On principle, I am not gunna pay - hey, oops, sorry, here is the 3 bucks I forgot. I digress and I am sorry.I say - don't pay it. What are they gunna do? Really?? I am a big supporter of user pays. Edited August 18, 2016 by Lloyd
lencolad Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 For my 1200 bucks I get a weekly bin service (nearly all my 'waste' is green and goes back into the ground or it's recyclable), a fortnightly recycle bin, a bitumen road, no footpaths or street lighting (good - don't need), no sewerage or water (good - I manage my own). It pays for the local rec centre which I don't use but I'm happy to support, the local footy club gets some coin too (pus), and some of the rest of the shire services. The guvvy tops it up too. I have a lousy mobile service, grid power which I feed heaps into, a landline, and a gas bottle for a stove.
Lloyd Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 480 sq metres in Northcote. $6000. Correct me if I am wrong, but that is nearly half a hectare in pretty much inner city Melbourne. I think that Northcote controllers - oops, councilors - are not paid enough.
