Tony M Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Correct me if I am wrong, but that is nearly half a hectare in pretty much inner city Melbourne. More like 1/20th of a hectare - you did ask to be corrected if you were wrong, which you are. 2
lencolad Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 (edited) Scorched ! Them country boys ain't too good wiv da mafs once they've run outa fingas and toes. Edited August 18, 2016 by lencolad 1
Tony M Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Mate, we good ol' boys know our acres at least - hectares are trickier and less intuitive, but they can be sussed.
Lloyd Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 More like 1/20th of a hectare - you did ask to be corrected if you were wrong, which you are. Yep. oops. A hectare is 10,000 sq metres. My bad.
lencolad Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I'm not too bright and live in the country so I use this method - hold up as many fingers as there are acres and then fold half of them to get hectares. It's a bugger with odd numbers though. 1
F18 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Everybody knows the councils here are the biggest crooks in Victoria. I pay $2895 annually. 2
rocl444 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 christchurch, nz - $3000. but the council needs to replace all the roads, all the water and sewerage pipes and all it's buildings. well - most of them anyway.
Citroen Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 $4500 Auckland - and keeps rising every year by about 10%!
seano Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 This might put worms in front of birds but might I suggest that to be truly comparable then the punters in this thread should include their house and land rateable value. Mainly because if it's worth a million bucks and your rates are $2.5k and you think you're hard done by then spare a thought for those that pay similar rates for property that's nowhere near that value. So here's ours...$1850 for a rated value of $270,000. Rural road. Garbage service only. Ours is not to reason why. Merely to point and giggle.
Guest Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Burnie, Tasmania Rates, $870 Water, $1120 with 0 excess usage. Sorry to quote my own post but, Paid $1283, for rates a year later + the water See how it goes in 12 months, may be a war here with council
Two Flies Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Yep. oops. A hectare is 10,000 sq metres. My bad. I'll be double checking your figures in the political threads in future.
Addicted to music Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 $4500 Auckland - and keeps rising every year by about 10%! WTF....!!!!!!!
Super Mustud Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 See it as one of your contribution to the less well off. Most probably not true however it will at least make you feel more noble and society helpful.
Two Flies Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 1100 christchurch, nz - $3000. but the council needs to replace all the roads, all the water and sewerage pipes and all it's buildings. well - most of them anyway. Fark $4500 Auckland - and keeps rising every year by about 10%! Double farrrrrk 1
betty boop Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 $1368 a year in the outer suburban Melbourne ... We own the road and anything in the street ... No foot paths ... We pay to light our street and any other maintenance in the street. They sweep it with the road sweeper sometimes ... And pick up our rubbish ... And that's it... ... Our rates go further than that though with other council services ....
lencolad Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 ... We own the road .... So you're the numpty in the jacked-up Patrol with the giant mud-digger tyres and all the lights on the roof bar ? Shame on you. 1

Don't let them do this. Otherwise, you are estopped from not paying rates. This is not legal advice.
Guest jakeyb77 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 All I can say is don't move to Bayside or Port Phillip councils. Stop complaining it is the sunny playground of the rich and famous after all
joz Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 So you're the numpty in the jacked-up Patrol with the giant mud-digger tyres and all the lights on the roof bar ? Shame on you. And the I Hunt and I vote stickers. Yep thats's our Betty alright.
joz Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Stop complaining it is the sunny playground of the rich and famous after all It's nothing compared to the mooring fees at the Marina down the street.

Guest jakeyb77 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) oh yeah thats me flying down "our road" Looks like a hot wheels car. They fit people in them??? How many AAA batteries does it take? Edited August 22, 2016 by jakeyb77
betty boop Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 actually just to clarify what I said prior..... what I didnt realise is our rates while paid monthly... is only paid for 10 months of year i.e. in ten instalments $1368 a year in the outer suburban Melbourne ... We own the road and anything in the street ... No foot paths ... We pay to light our street and any other maintenance in the street. They sweep it with the road sweeper sometimes ... And pick up our rubbish ... And that's it...... Our rates go further than that though with other council services .... realised this looking at our 2016/17 year rates notice just received which says we are now up for $1080 for the year.... regardless it seems curious ... but our rates appear to have dropped ! because while ~$114 per month over 10 months ... it is now $108 a month for 10 months hehe
Volunteer Kazz Posted August 24, 2016 Volunteer Posted August 24, 2016 I just got the rates notice today, Yarra Ranges Shire (outer, outer east of Melbourne), gone up $200 now $1740 for the year,
