Anyone remember these?

I bought one off scumtree for $100+postage.

Had a quick listen last night. not very dynamic, doesn't go as high and low as my monarchy audio sm-70. sounds a bit sterile as well. Maybe it needs a few more hours before it opens up.

Anyone have any info on these? what power output?post-151993-14441693032.jpgpost-151993-144416933101.jpgpost-151993-144416935044.jpgpost-151993-144416936605.jpg

might change the opamps one day.

Is it Class A? Or are there more output trannies that we can't see in the pics?

not class a runs pretty cool. only two output transistors

Greg Osborn used to sell these and said they were pretty good.

do you remember the cost of one?

So with only 2 O/P devices in a stereo power amp my curiosity got the better of me.

LM12 CLK is actually an IC not a single power transistor.

From the datasheet:

The LM12 is a power op amp capable of driving ±25V at ±10A while operating from ±30V supplies. The monolithic IC can deliver 80W of sine wave power into a 4Ω load with 0.01% distortion. Power bandwidth is 60 kHz. Further, a peak dissipation capability of 800W allows it to handle reactive loads such as transducers, actuators or small motors without derating.

The LM12CL is not an output transistor it is actually an 80W Operational Amplifier from National Semiconductor.

From memory they sold for about $1200, that was about 12 years ago.

Cheers

well then, i got a good deal!

i've been listening to it in the last few days and as much as i prefer my pre power combo i would rather use this because in summer my lounge room is hot enough without the class a power amp running all day.

i'm planning to upgrade the opamps to the Burson V5, change a few capacitors and in a month or two change the volume pot to a Khozmo 48 step attenuator.

I bought my Music Labs integrated (same as above pic) new in 1997 (I think) for about $850? I still have it, and it's been used almost every day since! I even have the original manual. They only made 2 amps as far as I know - this integrated and a pre-power combo.

Amp specs (integrated):

ML808 mk11

80w/8 ohms

2-200kHz -3db

<0.002%

It came with a 20yr warranty!! And no, I never needed it! Still running perfectly after 1000's of hours, including some rather loud parties!!

I recall taking quite a bit of time matching it to components, and some (more expensive) components sounded terrible through it! I settled on a Denon dcd615 tweaked by Benchmark, and some Osborn F1's. They are all still going strong! I love having a near all-Melbourne system!

Yeah 20yrs amazing, however I think they folded well within that timeframe! Build quality is lovely. Only thing going on it is the selector pot is starting to wear out a little - that's it!

I'd love to trackdown their pre/power unit. Let me know if anyone has one!!

It's funny. Maybe it's the fact that my Music Labs amp was the first big purchase when I got a "real" job? It's still great to my ears 20yrs later, and still gets regular use......

i've now gutted the intergrated amp only kept the input selector circuit (removed the volume pot) and installed my Pass B1 buffer so now it's a pre amp.

love the look of the amp!

Nice idea! Yeah it's a great looking little unit. 20 yrs of use and mine still looks fantastic and I haven't done a thing to it. That's not a bad idea! Mat

change the op amps in yours. does improve a bit. i tried it as a power amp bypassing the volume pot with a passive attenuator and that gave a bit more top end detail. but i think there are better amps for the price.
