I stopped listening to what salesman from HIFI stores tell me many moons ago. You could get a MiniDSP and a microphone for sub integration and EQ. Edited October 6, 2017 by Satanica

Well dare I say a good selling point as the old school AVR's with no auto set up scarred most people off. I personally find the Integra/Onkyo set up system a very happy medium, just 1 listening position and it did adjust the levels of my 2 subs.

Was thinking about with the other AVR's that i had but with this i feel I have absolutely no need for it. Just 1 minute of Billy Joel Live at Shea Stadium bluray was enough for me to decide.

Nah 100,000 % done now, i just have a Klein II dac coming and that is it, I'm sick of connecting these things up. At least I have tried a ton of different products and combinations so I definitely know what is best for me. 1

I just see it as, if your room is "correct' you don't need room correction. It really is "processing' it's processing your sound to how a piece of software thinks it should sound.

If what they try to say is that they use the DRC in the first place to see how it sounds and not using it because they don't like it then that's fair enough. But to 'use it for initial easy set up' and not using it afterwards makes no sense as the implication is that DRC is some sort of tool to get it right and then can be discarded once you did get it right. Perhaps just the wording issue. 1

I fully understand, as an installer you want a quick set up so use the little microphone, it makes lots of cool noises, it sets all the distances and levels he customer seems very impressed. You then turn off all the Audyssey settings for example as we all know how bad it sounds for music as you don't want any complaints.

Good luck with that....but seriously, your system is fantastic! Well done!

Perhaps it would have been easier to understand if the phrase was 'they only use it for initial easy set up to impress the customers and then turn it off to show how the AVR sounds better without it.'

You haven't tried a MiniDSP with some self imposed EQ so how do you REALLY know?

Yeah i know but my best combo before was Integra 30.5 with poweramp for front and DAC for 2 channel. i don't need a power amp now for this beast so Integra and Dac and you probably wont hear from me ever again. some will be happy. 17 minutes ago, Satanica said: ou haven't tried a MiniDSP with some self imposed EQ so how do you REALLY know? Yeah i agree but I really am just enjoying this now and I really can't see it being a Major! improvement for the hassle that it is to learn and set up. 1
powerav Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Who knows i might even get a turntable now. 1
Happy Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 now that's another thing satanica would disapprove of 1

This sounds just as good as an integrated amp for 2 channel but far easier to use. Some serious bargains to be had on Ambertech's Ebay store, this looks and was packed as brand new and $1400 for what still retails at over $4000. 1
powerav Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Just saw this on another audio forum and really makes sense to me and was the only way that i got ARC to sound good, just leave the mic in the one spot. "Something I recently heard from a rep- when using Audyssey, leave the mic in the same position for the first two tests- one tests for distance and the other tests for phase. Then, move the mic and do the rest of the tests. If you never use more than a few seating positions, keep the mic close to those and don't move it far from the primary position if you want it to sound good." 1
Happy Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 That seems to be the case with my Dirac Live for stereo too.

I had pretty mediocre results with Audy (and YPOA and MCACC) by using their guide of putting the mic in various seating positions throughout the room. This only results in all seats sounding crap. I got MUCH better results by using a fairly tight measurement circle around the MLP, usually no more than 30-40cm Not saying Audyssey is for everyone (as it's definitely not!) but if it's night and day different/sounds "off" - to borderline unlistenable - I tend to think something might be up with the initial setup Anyway glad you're finally happy now!
powerav Posted October 11, 2017 Author Posted October 11, 2017 Got the Klein 2 dac today, woo hoo. Yep that's game over, this will do me. 1

With Audyssey I was moving the mic all around the place as since you have at least 8 positions you start running out of spots to put it. I wish I tried the method that I used for Arc and just used the one spot. It made a big improvement. It really it just common sense since that really I am predominantly the only one using it or cares about the sound so why should I compromise my spot for the 1% of times someone sits in the lounge on the side wall or something. There is a reason they call it the mother in law spot. Edited October 12, 2017 by powerav 1
