Ian McP Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 full lineup for 2019 announced! www.womadelaide.com.au a few familiar and a few unknown, should prove interesting! 2
mrbuzzardstubble Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 I'm familiar with quite a few of them. Fatou Diawara should be good. Mehdi Haddab who fronted Speed Caravan some years ago returns with his mate Smadj as DuOud. Shantel's Bucovina Orchestra will get the crowd jumping with their Balkan Brass music.
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted November 22, 2018 Volunteer Posted November 22, 2018 I’m excited ! 2
Ian McP Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 DuOud have been off the radar for a while however it'll be fun to see them back in action! https://tsong-dao-prod.com/artists/duoud/ < Mehdi Haddab who fronted Speed Caravan > yes.... heavy metal oud! 1
Ian McP Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 just announced! < Happy New Year friends. We bring good news for 2019! One of New Zealand's most globally successful musical exports Fat Freddy's Drop will be making their triumphant return to the WOMADelaide stage this March. Set to headline our Foundation Stage on Saturday night, Fat Freddy's Drop have been selling out concert halls and festival stages the world over since their last WOMAD appearance in 2014, treading their own unique musical path through a heady world of dub, funk, soul, reggae, blues, ska and house. One taste of this seven headed psychedelic soul monster and you'll be hooked - groove after groove, horn line after horn line, drop after golden drop. Few live bands can match the potent slow-burn satisfaction of a Fat Freddy's Drop festival set, and we're as excited as you to have secured this last minute addition to the WOMADelaide 2019 lineup! > 3

t_mike Posted February 11, 2019 Author Posted February 11, 2019 Ralphe Armstrong said he was returning to Australia in March, but I see no promotion of it anywhere. The staff at Birds Basement know nothing. Could this be a headline jazz act for the year? 1
mrbuzzardstubble Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 The Womadelaide app is now fully functional with the timetable now added.
t_mike Posted February 23, 2019 Author Posted February 23, 2019 Things are starting to warm up. A lot of DJ acts this year, even on the larger stages. Some of them look to be quite promising. So, hands up. Who's going? 1
frankn Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Just ordered our tickets. A reminder to people - if you are an RAA member you get discounts. https://www.raa.com.au/member-benefits/browse/entertainment/womadelaide/womadelaide 2
emesbee Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 I will be there again, already have my ticket. The DJ and hip-hop acts are not really my thing, but there is enough on the program to interest me. Very keen to see the Sharon Shannon band again, they were great last time they were here. Silk Road Ensemble is a must see. I'm quite interested to see Sona Jobarteh, bit unusual to see a female kora player. Also Fatoumata Diawara, Duoud, Jamie Smith’s MABON, Dangerous Song & Bukhu and The Original Gypsies. So, quite a bit to see, and probably some surprises amongst the acts I haven't mentioned (as always). 1
mrbuzzardstubble Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Maarja Nuut & Ruum of Estonia sound interesting to me. 3
Ian McP Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 If you've not experienced Fat Freddy's Drop live you're in for a fabulous trip! Get up front, the mosh pit will be grooving on a mellow vibe! 1
mrbuzzardstubble Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I haven't been able to contact the people who might know who the guest artists are unfortunately. There's two acts at the festival proper I'd like to see but wont. Trio Medieval with Arve Henriksen and the Sretensky Monastery Choir from Russia. Check out these wonderful voices. 1
t_mike Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 Just arrived in Adelaide last night. The excitement is building. Time for me to start plotting my timetable and working out where to be and when. The app is very good for this, with alerts to help remind. Anyone there who hasn't used the app should try it. 2
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted March 6, 2019 Volunteer Posted March 6, 2019 We are hitting the road bright and early tomorrow for our road-trip across. 2
mrbuzzardstubble Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Hi everyone Having a great time I hope. Looking forward to seeing these 2 ladies, so I've already bought their albums. 1
zippi Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Have a blast people! Enjoy Adelaide!!! Enjoy WOMAD !!!! Awesome lineup this year (as always it seems). I'm sitting this one out - next year hopefully back into it. 1
yeahpetrus Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Last year it was feathers. This year it’s fluorescent coloured flour. Surprised they let us in a taxi at the end of last night! Great start to this year. Heading in again now... 1
yeahpetrus Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Not sure if Khruangbin were a last minute addition, but great surprise to see them last night. A lot of buzz around them in the US. Incredibly hypnotic, psychedelic sound. 1
