emesbee Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I wish that I were in such a fortunate position:) Fortunate? All it means is that I'm spending more than I should!

lebowski Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 How'd you go? Get it yet? sure have. I've only had a brief listen though. Some great tracks and even better guitar work, they obviously both enjoyed the jam session. Sound quality is super.
sligoriverblues Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 I couldn't resist, it's the next best thing until he tours in November: vinyl of course. I might get the DVD too... I'm playing this at the moment but really, if Swans' My Father Will... wasn't that fantastic, I'd think there's nothing like this for this year... So far... That being said I'm loving it!!!

Jake Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 sure have. I've only had a brief listen though. Some great tracks and even better guitar work, they obviously both enjoyed the jam session.Sound quality is super. Cool. I am pleased to say that all my purchased hi res files were backed up when my Maxtor died a few weeks ago, so I didn't lose any of it. I only lost the red book stuff and that can't compete with vinyl anyway :popcorn

cjcc Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I'm not a cd fan however the hi res digital is certainly good. my only worry is remastering
hired goon Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 G'day, Went to a record store in downtown SLC today and bought the following: Four Tet - There Is Love In You 2LP -- I was gunna buy the CD but then I noticed the new 2LP vinyl was marked down to $10 so I bought that instead. This way I can rip it to FLAC for fewer $$$. Keith Jarrett - "Solo Concerts: Bremen / Lausanne" 3LP -- saw this hiding in the jazz section for $8 ... very nice condition, sounds great on my dodgy setup. I've got the CD version and might compare the FLACs one day ... --Geoff
proftournesol Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) A classic from 1980 reissued by the bearded ones on 180g vinyl, unfortunately I missed out on a much more hip Factory Records release. That sounds much more dangerous as the cover was made of sandpaper to deliberately ruin the sleeves of adjacent LP sleeves in the record shop. In a further delightful perversity, "The Return of the Durutti Column" is their debut album:) Factory records, Manchester, late 70s-1980, produced by Martin Hannett (buzzcocks, Joy Division), you'd think of English punk or post punk but it's almost acoustic jazz instrumental. Good album too. and for completists, the original sandpaper cover (minus the texture) Edited October 5, 2010 by proftournesol
mondie Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Where did you find that Durutti LP Prof, is it readily available? Could be keen.
proftournesol Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Where did you find that Durutti LP Prof, is it readily available? Could be keen. acoustic sounds. Good time to be buying from the US as the Seppo dollar is weak.
mondie Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks Prof, l have an order pending with them so will add it on
metal beat Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Prof / Mondie I hope your copies are quieter than mine. A little bit noisy, so I hope mine is not representative of the Durutti reissue, as it is very nice musically. WOW, 2500 posts on SNA. It is clear I need to spend less time on the web :-)
proftournesol Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 my copy is CD silent:) congrats on 2500 posts, now get a life:)

Grizzly Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 A few opshop cds- The fact that Crunt's drummer and occasional vocalist is Russel Simins from the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is enough to raise eyebrows. The all-star line up continues with Kat Bjelland from Babes in Toyland on bass and her then-husband Stuart Gray [Lubricated Goat] on guitar and vocals. In short, this band produces quick, raunchy and nasty sounding rock 'n roll songs which immediately captivate the listener with their style, sexiness and immediacy. With their choppy, distorted guitars and frantic drums, Gray and Simins groan and yell about sweat, vengeance, pigs and sex, while Bjelland pounds away at her bass and even lends her trademark screeching yell to "Unglued". Both the music and lyrics are raw, blunt and unforgiving, with no pretense or ornamentation. Guaranteed to make your body move and highly recommended to anyone into JSBX or Boss Hog. And a couple of "Atomics", no idea if these are particularly valuable, but might be a fun listen for 50c each-
Todd Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Jake, where did you find the Mountain of One LP? Have checked half a dozen sites and all have it listed as unavailable. Enjoyed it on CD, the vinyl could be very exciting. cheers, Todd

Enjoyed it on CD, the vinyl could be very exciting. cheers, Todd Funny you mention it. I first pre-ordered it from JB (I think) early in the year when it was first announced (you will find a thread on here by me). Then it was cancelled. I saw it again on CDWow and summarily ordered it once more. But I see it is still for preorder. I do recall reading about the first delay on a blog site, so I guess somehow they are having troubles. Cheers, Jake
