bhobba Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Hi Guys Just purchased one from Mike along with a Direct Stream. Ordered it last week. It arrived very quickly - like today. Mike is burning it in right now and I will be going down to hear it later today and can report more when I hear it. Its physically huge however and I will need to modify my furniture a bit to accommodate it. Have made arrangements with Rawl99 who installs Hi Fi systems professionally to install it in my system. In the mean time anyone that wants to hear it can go down to Mikes - its running right now. Mike also mentioned a GTG is on the cards. Me, Rawl99 and Steve U are up for one - anyone else interested? Thanks Bill 2
Bill125812 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I'm in also Bill Looking forward to getting your thoughts on the combo 1

Guest Muon Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I have a more reliable car now, so I may be interested, always good to catch up with you guys anyway....and It's been a while. Depends on what week though (budget)
Guest Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 The DirectStream, BHK, Lenehan combination is apparently a marriage made in heaven by many accounts. I only have 2/3 of the combo ... so far 4
acg Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) Bill, I'll venture down the hill to have a listen if the timing for a gtg is ok. Will your new Magnesiums also be part of the day? I look forward to catching up with you guys again. Cheers, Anthony Edited November 10, 2015 by acg

bhobba Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Hi Guys Well made my way down to Mikes to hear it. Only for about half an hour though. It was brand new into brand new ML2 Reference - they both need considerably more time. Its like nothing I have heard before - I will say a little more in the thread in the amp sub forum. But its like nothing I have heard previously - liquid life is the best I can conjure up in words. Easily the best amp I have ever heard - period. Not SS, not valve, not digital, most like the Arion 500's - but at a much higher level. Thanks Bill 1

wikeeboy Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Very interested in the opinions of SNAers on here regarding the BHK. Although I'm rather interested in it I really struggle with the fan boy opinions on everything PS Audio at the moment. They are clearly miles ahead of their competitors when it comes to marketing and hype. 4

PS Audio might be the spin kings at the moment but if you don't have the product to back it up you will be found out pretty quickly. 6

He's a very interesting guy and a very good designer. The BHK amp is a fully balanced, tube IP -> SS OP amp that by all accounts combines the best attributes of SS and tube. It's worth noting that Bascom actually measures a lot of amps for various magazine reviews - and obviously listens to them. So he's pretty versed in how many of them sound. Considering the price of some hi end amps these days the BHK's actually seem not unreasonably priced and I'm sure they sound spectacular. Terry Demol T & L Tech Audio Design and Service 1

Although I'm rather interested in it I really struggle with the fan boy opinions on everything PS Audio at the moment. They are clearly miles ahead of their competitors when it comes to marketing and hype. There is a lot of hype etc around all sorts of products. As a guy that forks out his own dosh to check out a lot of products I know this only too well. I could regale you with products that do NOT measure up - but wont. Also there is a LOT of personal preference with all this stuff. I have sat with people that go wow over a bit of gear and others that say - what's the fuss. Check out the following: http://www.stereomojo.com/LENEHAN%20ML1%20REFERENCE%20SPEAKER%20REVIEW/LenehandML1ReferenceSpeaker.htm You dont read reviews like that, but if you listen to gear with others you know such divergence of opinion is common. So why the dearth of such reviews? Well what would happen to the advertising budget of a publication if you wrote a review like the above? Would they send you products to review? Would they advertise? I am pretty sure you get the drift. A lot of gear gets 5 stars. I could give tons of other examples but will just mention one - the Killer DAC vs the DS. I freely admit I love my Killer - it makes the music I listen to sound divine - for me the DS simply isnt as good. But there are others that disagree - everyone likes the Killer - it really does sound real and beautiful - but some think its simply euphonic distortion. There is a slight bit of that - but its very subtle - still some find that's 'wrong'. Then why did I get the DS?. First it is on special at the moment. Secondly I have a Payback Designs MPD 3 that like the DS is designed as a DSD DAC from the ground up. Its pretty good on PCM but really great on DSD - very real live and present. The DS however has quite a few advantages over it. First IMHO its PCM is better, the DSD about the same. Both get regular firmware updates that are a step above previous versions - but the DS updates seem more frequent and make a greater difference. The DS also has an inbuilt volume control so you can direct connect to an amp - which I like to do. But the real clincher was something quite simple - it had a Toslink input and the PD didn't. The new Samsung TV I am getting has a Toslink output and I am addicted to listening to it through my Hi Fi. At the moment I use an upgraded Oppo - but I prefer the DS. So I thought why not sell my PD and get the DS - I will get a lot more use out of it. Based on this experience IMHO there is one and only one solution. Whenever you see a hyped product simply say - that sound's interesting - I will try and seek it out and have a listen. That's all there is to it. That way you can judge for yourself - that's the real key. Thanks Bill Edited November 10, 2015 by bhobba 1

Hi Terry It is pricey but after hearing it, I think its good value. I have heard other much more expensive amps that IMHO it eats alive. Thanks Bill Edited November 10, 2015 by bhobba
Sparkle Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Just spotted this thread, so a bit late, but I'm in for a GTG along with my two partners in crime! Good chance to hear the latest and greatest! I might finally get to meet the great Bill after all these years! 1

I think they would be brain dead if they didn't , I was just as skeptical until I heard one, in fact my first listen was not with my own speakers and I was thrown into a bit of a spin because what I was hearing was in some ways better than anything I had ever heard. I'm simply not used to amplifiers making this much difference to the sound . I have since heard my ML2Reference driven by the BHK amplifier and Direct Stream Dac in Adelaide and can report to my considerable relief that this is now the best sound I have ever heard ( watch out Boys !! bit of self promotion here !! danger Will Robinson !! ) Six years ago we were using the Macintosh MC501 as our reference amp then we transitioned to the Arion HS-500's which were superb in fact we didn't think anything could top them . So we thought ! because along came the Prima Luna Dialogue Premium power amp ,all 36watts per channel , it simply knocked over the Arions so we stopped importing the Arions from the US and started selling the Prima Luna's . OK WELL blow me doon along comes this BHK thingy ! what can we do it just kills every other amp we've heard . I expect big leaps in performance with digital front ends like servers and Dac's but not with Speakers and Amps they are too connected to the pshyical world as in they are Carbon life forms not Silicone . Just wait Lads >> Just you flammin Audiophiles wait ! what can ya sell ?? ya wife ?your Car ? what about your house you could just throw a sheet of bunnings plastic over the amp and system if it started to rain . Ya have to get your priorities organised. Regards MIke Lenehan 4
