Hmm, I have to work tomorrow and have a similar dilemma. Taking the train is a pain on a Sunday as they are 40 (yes 40) minutes apart, but the bike may be too hard against that gale.

Anyone tried the Magicshine bike lights yet? Ive just got a set and cannot believe how bright they are. I ride a nighttime bush track to and from work and they relly light the place up. Only $100

some photos from a phenomenal day at the UCI World Cycling Championships. AFL attendance 92,000. UCI WC attendance 150,000+. It'll get next to no print media coverage though.

The only media coverage it will get is when more are caught taking drugs

Great photos Prof, would have been an exciting day. The TDU passes right by our house next January, cannot wait for that!

It's been great weather for doing some riding of my own as well. Had an excellent ride this weekend and last thanks to the spring weather that has finally decided to show itself in Melbourne.

Going to take a while to readjust to the saddle after being too lazy over winter though :)

I went to Geelong, great day out and a great race. Pity the Grand Final replay took all the coverage away but the crowd numbers show the level of interest was very high. I watched from a number of points on the course and saw them struggle up hill, fly down hill and zoom along the flats. Having laps around the circuit means you get the chance to see the cyclists a number of times. My biggest problem was that I was sick so came home totally exhausted and took today off work (thaks to my daughter for giving me her cold). Still, sick or not, it was an event I didn't want to miss. I might post some pics in a few days when I get the films processed!

Also amazing was how VLine did such a good job getting people there and back. When I got to Geelong station after the event there was a huge queue. But with trains going every 10 minutes and a train having a capacity of maybe 1,000 the queues went down very fast.

I saw quite a few European cycling fans there so I think it was great exposure for Geelong and Melbourne.

It's a shame that the media covers the events that they are interested in rather than what people are interested in. 150,000+ people and not even a page of coverage in the Age for a major international event with worldwide coverage. meanwhile pages and pages of minutiae about AFL, 2 pages of horse racing coverage....

Yes, it was a bit of a joke seeing the sports section of The Age headline with the Grand Final celebrations over the cycling. Sunday morning, Grand Final result leads, that's fair enough, but come Monday the only football coverage was of the aftermath, not a new game or a new result or really any news. The cycling should have been the lead.

Had a great ride down to Mordialloc and back on the beach road early Saturday morning. Stunning weather, bugger all cars on the road and hundreds of bikes - AWESOME!

thats why i throw a cheap rear wheel and tyre on the back and put the bike on the exercise stand. Keeps your back side tuned to the seat :)

i must admit, i do enjoy jogging over the winter months, but yea, bring back the good bike riding weather. Looking forward to those long rides again

I do strength training on the exercise stand (we all call it an ergo for some reason) every week regardless. Still, I've not ridden much for a few weeks, been too busy with other things. Getting back into to it now with an easy 60k roll yesterday.

Re Jake's post above:

Those BMX guys can eat their hearts out. Much easier to do tricks on a BMX than an old bike like that.

As for cycling, I am getting a bit sick of bashing my way into a slight wind on the way to work and then the sea breezes turn up and I'm bashing into the wind on the way home too. Spring really is a bad time to be going North West to work and South East home in Melbourne. Still, I will persist, it is by far and away the best way to get to work and I do enjoy cycling.
