have been looking for an older Italian steel frame for a while and managed to snag this and really looking forward to building it up

it's Columbus SLX - I just love the Italian national colours as well

here's the story behind it from the owner - build is late 2014/early 2015

"On my travels I have visited many Italian bicycle makers, De Rosa , Ciocc, Guerciotti and Tommasini. I am 100 percent sure Luigi Daccordi still builds frames so the name on the frame is the guy who built it. When I traveled to San Miniato Basso to pay for the frame , I arrived at the factory to find it was closed. A door opened on a home attached to the factory. Mrs Daccordi opened up the security gate, let me in to the shop/ factory and showed me my frame which I paid for. The frame was sent to me in England. Mr Daccordi has a very professional set up. Retail shop and repairs/ assembly , measuring up room and office ground floor and manufacturing upstairs. By trade I work in engineering on the shop floor , I could see the Daccordi family had invested heavily in machinery/ tooling for frame manufacture.

If you ever get to Italy on a bicycle themed trip , I highly recomend visiting Tommasini and Daccordi if you are in Tuscany."

if you mean retro shifters on the downtube, no - reckon its a 'new' frame so needs contemporary gear

if you mean the thumb downshift toggle on the Campag levers, then yes and that will be a learning curve for me

I forgot to mention this earlier but I used to ride a fair bit with Quang and Minh Vuong. 2 young blokes from this part of the world. Quang in particular is a retro freak and has an enormous knowledge of classic bikes, he also has piles of parts of all kinds. He might well have just the thing you're after or have a good idea of where to source one.

Alas I don't see either of them that often these days as Quang is doing an engineering degree and Minh is working. They saved up their money and bought the frame making gear that Bundy was selling so are having a go at making stuff themselves. Also unfortunately I don't have a contact number for either but their website is here..

They are on Facebook so they might well be contactable through there if you have an account.

I did mean the down tube shifters, but yes, the brifter arrangement is so much more functional.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a de Vlaeminck fan as well. Beautiful position on the bike. The flattest back I've ever seen.

stealthy bike needs a few touches of colour and visibility don't ya reckon.

Na I enjoy being hidden ready to attack :) pain in the butt trying to keep it clean the Matt finish.

And I can see you've got a decent flasher on the back and reflective tape on the saddlebag.

I did have to look twice as I thought "That's a bloody big granny gear on the rear cassette" and then I realised it's the rear disc brake...

11-28 cassette Hergest decided to move with times and go with disc. Really like the feel of disc. But honestly in the dry there ain't alot of difference. Where I see the advantages carbon wheels and disc brakes are nice combo.

Are they 40 or 60 disc rotors on that Canyon?

I built a new road bike around Xmas just for something to do with some extra holidays that happened, and read Shimano's advice on making the front disc rotor 60's rather than 40's.

I thought it would look rather out of kilter if I had 60's at the front, and 40's at the back, so I put 60's on both.

Would have to agree that there isn't much difference in the braking in the dry [unless you really have to jamm them on quickly ] but they are quieter, and if running Shimano Di2, it's as quiet a ride as possible, sort of like Bentley/ Rolls Royce quiet.....that's stealth !

Got to ask.

How are you finding the feel of the braking with those shifters ?.....Try as many times as I could, using all the best advice followed to the letter regarding bleeding the lines, I still find the Hydraulic shifters spongy compared to standard shifters.

@Tweaky on the Canyon are 160 mm as for braking yeah I would say spongy. But when you apply little more pressure no lack in stopping. I do feel more control when descending. Really enjoying the feel of the canyon fast very responsive.

Only discovered this thread the other day, well here's my steed I've had since January.

Put deposit down on it Oct '16, as I needed to start doing something. Got out my old Avanti Ventura from 1994!   Started to get back into it, then realised how ridiculously small it is and in general (MTB's) back then were.

I'm 6'4 so my bike Is an XL  : Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 29. No fancy carbon here.  Was nearly 99kg at Christmas, and said to myself , I ain't cracking 100kg! Now down to 90kg and also watching what I eat.

Use Map my Ride app on phone, great tool. Done over 800km since  12th January, when I picked it up. Doesn't sound much but we have a few healthy fire tracks around the Grampians, ie: uphill and gets the lungs and thighs burning. Just got back from a ride, took the dogs for run, and a bit wet at the moment. Shots dirty and clean.

Thanks,

 Matt

Showing my age. I still remember when Specialized first hit the market. Nearly bought the Allez but ended up getting a Ishiwata 019 frame made by Jonny Kitchen and built the bike up from there.
