Hergest Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 I'm in the UK at the moment, the start of the final stage of the Tour Of Britain left from Worcester this morning, a delightful 100 km loop from where I am taking the country lanes away from the busy main roads. It's the first time I've seen a major bike ride and the time before the depart was great looking at the bikes and team cars. I've got a good set up on the Lynskey of Dura-Ace 9000 but there's something special about the set up the riders have with the latest state of the art groupsets and nice extras such as longer derailleur cages and very exxy oversized ceramic jockey wheels and all set up to perfection. Slammed stems everywhere and very aggressive geometry on the bikes that would probably root my back in 20 kms but it would be awesome to take one up and down a good hill, especially down. As the riders left Worcester I headed off home and got in the convoy of the team's coaches that take the main road to the motorway to get to Cardiff, the finish before the riders who take the circuitous route. For about 4 miles I rode right up the backside of the Lotto Soudal team bus, I felt like a French pro trying to get back to the peloton after a mechanical. I was lucky with the weather, grey, cool and windy but no rain. The riders ran into heavy horrible rain half an hour after leaving and it rained all the way to Cardiff so I was glad just to have the wind especially as it helped me get a Strava KOM on the way home. Best souvenir I can think of.... 3
Capone Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Went for a 2-1/2 hour ride through the fabulous Adelaide hills yesterday? Took my newish Giant Defy Advanced for a spin? If any one is coming over for the Tour Down Under in a few weeks time,do yourself a favour and bring your bike over with you and do a few rides through the Adelaide hills!! 1
Capone Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 So now that the Cadel Evans road race has finished, thats it as far as big bike races in Australia for now. So now we can to look forward to the European classics and of course the big 3 tours. Bring on the late nights ?

I really enjoyed the other two races. I've ridden in 45 degrees on the Pacific Highway in Sydney and I can tell you, it wasnt fun. Hat off to all those riders.

Very leafy railtrail Whenever I go down to Bright I ride the mountains and then for a more relaxing day do the railtrail to Beechworth which goes through some beautiful countryside. I wish more local authorities would convert old rail easements to shared paths as they mostly take very interesting routes.

I wish more local authorities would convert old rail easements to shared paths as they mostly take very interesting routes. I can say two things to this... One, I don’t have to go on a holiday to ride on a disused Railway line corridor.. 9 out of the 10 km of the ride I do is on the old Willunga Line south of Adelaide to my rail depot.. https://www.railtrails.org.au/trail?view=trail&id=199Secondly, as someone who has worked in the railways since the 70s, I’d actually prefer the lines still be active with rail traffic.. however, fully knowing that this is a pipe dream, I’d agree that these rail corridors should be put to good use..
Hergest Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 Love this time of the year when the Classics start in Europe. Omloop het Nieuwsblad on Saturday and Kuurne-Brusells-Kuurne yesterday. 1
Kensell21 Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 I’ve just started holidays, some great sports coming up. I’m not familiar with any other bike race apart from the local, one in Adelaide and of course the French one! Might give some of these others a look.
